Thanks, that is exactly what I did. I thought that I would be able to unplug and get by with a dumb phone. Life is much easier now (except my starmobile phone seems to randomly shut off for no reason).

Fun streets to remember in the Philippines:
    Fields Ave, Angeles City
Perimeter Rd (Used to be called Friendship), Angeles
    Burgos St, Makati
    Roxas Blvd, Pasay City
Subic Baraca National Highway, Barrio Baretto, Olongapo
    Mango Ave, Cebu
    Osmena Blvd, Cebu
    Lucson St, Bacolod
    Goldenfield, Bacolod
    Magsaysay St, Naga City (Bicol)

Sorry, nothing really worth remembering in Dumaguete. I couldn't even tell you the name of the Blvd here. Bar scene here is pretty pathetic compared to the places above.

Still better than stopping and asking the locals, who's brain is almost always shut off.

    From RA 7394, the Philippine consumer protection act;

"ARTICLE 81. Price Tag Requirement - It shall be unlawful to offer any consumer product for retail sale
to the public without an appropriate price tag, label or marking publicly displayed to indicate the price of
each article and said products shall not be sold at a price higher than that stated therein and without
discrimination to all buyers: Provided, That lumber sold, displayed or offered for sale to the public shall be
tagged or labeled by indicating thereon the price and the corresponding official name of the wood:
Provided, further, That if consumer products for sale are too small or the nature of which makes it
impractical to place a price tag thereon price list placed at the nearest point where the products are
displayed indicating the retail price of the same may suffice.
ARTICLE 82. Manner of Placing Price Tags - Price tags, labels or markings must be written clearly,
indicating the price of the consumer product per unit is pesos and centavos.
ARTICLE 83. Regulations for Price Tags Placement - The concerned department shall prescribe rules
and regulations for the visible placement of price tags for specific consumer products and services. There
shall be no erasures or alterations of any sort of price tags, labels or markings."

Of course, enforcement is the problem. The DTI is very good about handling complaints, but this is a country of sheep minded souls, nobody complains except the foreigners, who if they complain are quickly told "if you don't like it leave"!

Shadow: the inability /unwillingness to enforce laws is why I like living in this country......not so good for drawing in tourists though. Not many countries can you run a police checkpoint with absolutely no repercussions. (so long as you get past the initial short lived chase)

There are numerous maps of Dumaguete available online for free. You might want to print out your favorite one, take it with you, and make notes on it?

Let me google that for you

I disagree! They are for those who refuse to remain lost. Paper maps are very useful if you have no phone, or no battery, no signal, no load, and no apps! Also it is very hard to take down notes on an app! Unlike a smart phone paper maps have no recurring charges! A paper map has no limitations based on screen size either.

I carry an extra battery when traveling. My maps are cached, meaning no Internet required. Making a marker on a map with notes is easy (plus I can erase it if the info gets old). The map app is built in with any legit smart phone or tablet made in the last 5 years. As for screen size.......well, you are just confirming my "old person" comment.

Now, if I were out on a camping/excursion trip I would take paper maps as a phone battery simply wouldn't last any longer than 1-3 days, but for your average daily navigation around town/day trips....a smart phone is a hundred times better than a paper map.
