Tony, I thought the Mabinay caves were decent, not great. I also liked Casaroro Falls in Valencia. There was a private "museum" I went to about 5 years ago where the guy had been collecting military artifacts from WWII that was pretty cool; but for the life of me I can't remember where it was. Always planned to go back but seems like each trip now has other priorities that keep me busy. I was not overly impressed with Twin Lakes, but that may have more to do with the fact I could not catch anything other than tilapia. If anyone in your group likes fishing, there is a place in Mabinay that has a few ponds that have striped snakehead. It has been about a year since I've been there and the name slips my mind. They also have little cottages that are reasonable as I spent a few days there last time I went. I'm sure the folks that live there full time know many more places to visit. You can always hook up with one of the drivers at the airport and set something up, they seem to know the places that attract the tourists. Every time we get a ride back to Tanjay after a few days in Manila they all seem to have itineraries of things to see and do. Shawn
The Cata Al museum is located on the right just as you are entering Valencia proper from Dumaguete. They have steadily increased their inventory over the years and it is certainly worth checking out. For anyone that has not been to Tajero lately, they have really made some changes, fixed up the pools, added two Ziplines, etc..., we will be doing an article on Valencia and things to do/see here in the near future. The place in Mabinay you are referring to is Tirumbulo Highland Resort, definitely some nice scenery and landscaping there. We spent one night there on our honeymoon 11 years ago. We made the mistake of leaving the light on while we went and had dinner, when we came back getting inside the cabin was not possible due to all the bugs, MILLIONS of them! I parked the truck outside with the headlights on for about an hour and it got rid of most of them. Well worth the trip. Not far from Tirumbulo is Nikludhan Falls, one of the more awesome waterfalls I've seen in the Philippines. After a good rain it really roars; https://www.google.com.ph/search?q=...DHoW9kAWQiYDwDQ&ved=0CCcQsAQ&biw=1067&bih=551 Larry
Thanks Shawn , the other 2 families that are coming , like water orientated things , and yes one does love fishing , they are both actually scouting for property purchases also , thanks for taking time out to list a few things . Tony
Tony, As my wife reminded me, we only checked out 2 of the caves in Mabinay and there are supposed to be many caves depending on what entrance. Some of the others could be better than the ones we saw. Shawn
