Best Posts in Thread: Most Dangerous/Safest Countries to Drive

This post made me wonder just who the worst drivers in the world were. Surprisingly the Philippines doesn't rank as the most dangerous or the safest. Not really a surprise though. There are many worse places to live and many better places to live.

A quick search turned up these stats:

Most dangerous places to live (deaths/100k people. These deaths include car accidents, heart disease, cancer and strokes):

Safest places to drive:

Though I'm not going to be so quick to say these are the safest places to drive. Many of these are small countries or island nations where people don't have very far to drive and probably don't get up to any significant speeds. They might have just as many accidents, they just aren't going fast enough to get seriously hurt. Though Tajikistan is a curious one. I believe it's the largest of the countries on the "safe to drive" list.....it's just there are no roads to drive on lol. So, this is really quite a pointless list.

If you look at the Philippines vehicle fatalities per 100k vehicles they are about half way down the list of countries. They have about 130 fatalities per 100k vehicles. By comparison the US has 13, Japan has 7, Germany has 7, Sweden has 5 and the best on the list is Malta with 3.8.

And be happy that you don't live in the Central African Republic (first I heard of that one). Their are an amazing total of 13473 fatalities per 100k vehicles. Absolutely amazing. 13 percent of vehicles on the road will be the death of someone. (someone double check my math, that just seems to high).
