    I just read the Jan 25 Negros Chronicle article that strongly criticised the number of pedicabs in Dumaguete and the lack of qualified drivers. I doubt the article will gain any positive action as it did not call for a reform.

    It seems that every 2 or three years, all the Trikers meet up and sit things out with grievances that are just, and sometimes not so just! Good luck for solving their dilemmas. There will come a day when they will look at each other and realize -There is to many trikes everywhere in the Philippines...puffing out that black smoke.:stop: :banghead::arghh:

    I think the only way to assure any type of compliance with any rule change is to make the trike union feel like they are part of the solution (or even came up with it themselves). The city leaders need need to sit down with the union and come up with a plan to making the city a better place. Most importantly they need to make the union feel like it was their idea by stroking the sh*t out of the pedicab driver's egos. Without this happening they are just going to continue to do what they want and use their union to influence politics until they get what they want.

    This will never happen, of course, as the politicians need their egos stroked just as much as the trike drivers do. Could you imagine.....a politician not taking credit for fixing something? Laughable.

    good Idea but would they adhere to the Area, Valencia has only 3 license Numbers(or is the 4) and Dumaguete has 4 ( or is that 5) easy to Spot. So maybe a Col our Coded plate so each one is in his Area when Plying for Fares. Easy I think to Implement but again, we have this never ending Non Compliance.:cautious:

    :thumbsup: Anything is worth a Try and I commend your thoughts and actions but here is the catch 22. We never really know how people in Some sort of Authority actually welcome our Thoughts and possible help even if it is to their good and safety.

    Aside from the licensing aspect of this issue, there are also other public safety issues at stake. Namely:

    1. Who's trike are you getting into? Will you be mugged/raped etc? Especially vulnerable single women and anyone travelling at dusk (I say that because trikes at night should be a 'no-no' for everyone except in an absolute emergency).
    2. The NOISE! This applies to all bikes, but un-baffled bikes/trikes are a public nuisance and trikes are a major contributing factor.
    3. Vehicular maintenance (or lack) thereof.*

    Unfortunately, it is likely to take the rape of a Governors' daughter or the death of one of their relatives for anything legislative to take effect. And for a 'loving & god-fearing' populous this shouldn't be the case.

    * Poor maintenance of ANY public transport vehicle, including (but not limited to) lack of lights, breaks, unkempt tyres etc. is inexcusable, irrespective of COST. You're gambling with peoples lives and the livelihoods of there respective families.

    I'm sorry, but a St. Christopher mounted on your dashboard or an "In God We Trust" mudguard is of little consequence when a Ceres Bus is hurtling towards you in the dark!!

    Agree with you Totally Pat but was this not one of the Items that our Good? Mayor was going to take his time over thinking about, I seem to remember in the Article the Other day that there were Many other things left in Abeyance for a Rainy Day. May we all Wish for rain fairly soon and sort this Problem out once and for all. Maybe it is time for a rain dance rain dance.jpg

    Certainly time for Plain Speaking and Enforcement of the Rules.
