We take busses on a consistent basis, the wife likes to be towards the front and I look at the speedometer when up front. I have never seen the bus get past 80kph, most seem to max out around 60 with traffic, for us that is 64-36 mph.
I don't disagree that some of the bus drivers can be in a bit of a hurry, most seem OK; the bikes and trikes that have no lights and operate day and night is something that should be addressed.

Fair comment actually, but, if we can define "fault" as it relates to the Buses and the Philippines, because there are so many obstacles here, like people walking slowly, animals, bicycles, trikes, m/c's going in all directions, etc.,etc., on the roads, and the roads are so badly constructed, add that the buses travel so damned fast, too fast and too aggressive for the conditions, and take too many chances when overtaking, like - being on the incorrect side of the road and flashing lights when coming toward you, demanding you slow down or get off the road to let them through, work it out from there...........it is just a volatile cocktail for disaster.

Happened around 9:15pm at Masaplod Sur, Dauin a few hundred meters from Bahura. Head on collision between Ceres #7624 and a gray mitsubishi adventure. All passengers of ceres are okay but the occupants of the Adventure were a Father and teenagers daughter with the family name of "Cang", probably a Chinese family as the daughter was speaking English. The daughter had a head injury but was concious. The father sustained the most injury with heavy bleeding but still breathing. Apparently the adventure came from Cebu and were headed for Santa Catalina. Within 30 minutes father and daughter were in the Ambulance. The Ambulance and Police arrived in less than 5 minutes.

CNN News indicated that there are 4 fatalities and 46 wounded. It appears the bus from Bacolod to Escalante tried to overtake another vehicle via the outer RIGHT hand lane (clever idea!!), didnt make it. hit the guardrail, turned over on it's side and slammed into the oncoming bus bound for Bacolod which also turned on it's side. One of the fatalities is the ticket collector of the Bacolod-bound bus.

Latest I've heard on this: 6 dead, 28 injured! Can't vouch for those numbers, but it was a bad one!

I have been traveling weekly between Bais and Dumaguete for over 5 years. The traffic is continually getting worse by the day. I believe the problem is all the new drivers of all vehicles cars, motorcycles, trucks learn to drive from watching others. The problem is they copy the aggressive bad drivers who have no idea of the proper way to drive. Monkey see Monkey do! Who ever drives the largest vehicle demands the right of way. The Ceres buses are one of the largest on the highway and continually push. If something isn't done here to enforce actual driving laws it will just continue getting worse.
Sorry about your friend-
