That’s a difficult statement to deal with. Is it worth it coming here? I’m certain that in this area you’d find many, possibly the majority of expats who’d say absolutely yes, it is worth it, at least for them – certainly not for everyone. There are many of us who live peaceful lives here, usually with a girlfriend or wife, who’ve never been spit upon, shot at, harassed by the authorities… Many of us find life here quite livable and affordable. You won’t read about us in the press. Many don’t post on this or other forums. If you’ve never been to the Philippines or you’ve been here but haven’t spent much time, my advice would be come here, see for yourself, but don’t burn bridges at home until you’ve been here for some length of time. Don’t get overly committed, don’t buy anything – just check it out. Good common sense should keep you safe and out of trouble.

IF i had my time over again i would still come to live here . i would make a few adjustments, i came here to get a house buy a car and find a partener i did that all in the first month lol WAY to fast the house was in the wrong place, the car sh*t its self and the girl had a big family i was to support . Take your time, think with the big head, stay under the radar, respect the locals, most of all stay cool. roll with the punches and enjoy

I think there are two schools of thought here.
1. Fate. When your number is up, adios.
2. Don't test or assist Fate.- Agree x 4

You need to always remember Pinoy males have an ego about as big as it can get and is especially bad when combined with drugs or alcohol. The slightest provocation can turn into a big problem and it is very wise to try and defuse it or walk away. A punch in the mouth to them or causing them to lose face will probably turn into a return with 6 or 7 of their relatives/ brothers or other scum bags with guns or knives.. If they kill or hurt a foreigner the police will do nothing except tell them not to do it again.. Sad but that is a fact here..

Yes Nwlivewire i can give you an exsample, i had a very good friend in Bayawan a few years back it was at the time of the worlds money problems he told me he was going to stop supporting many of his wifes family as his German pension was not enough to go around. Not long after is wife went to Manila for the weekend , he was found stabbed to death in his own bed while she was away. I was told by the police(you gussed it) it was an inside job, i never heard or seen any news on that again .
