Bad eating times comes to Mind, Gorging themselves at the endless Parties, We have a few Teenagers around here that are putting weight on in the wrong Place, As Charly said No exercise and with out Jobs it is easy to see why Obesity will be a Big Problem in the Near Future.
If you notice Construction Workers they all seen Pretty Slim and Fit. I will totally agree with you on the Middle Classes or can I say those with Regular work especially in Offices, the Computer Station has done them No favours but then again, it is not confined to the PI.![]()

I remember the school dinners thing on the TV with Jamie Oliver and the uphill battle he had with the school cooks in the canteens and trying to change the food back to how it used to be when we were kids.
Trouble was the cooks had lost a lot of the knowledge of cooking dinners and the budgets were so small and cooks also got lazy not wanting to prepare fresh foods. It was all Turkey twizzlers and burger and fries, I think he did get through in the end though, but the biggest battle was getting the kids to eat good food!
It's a good job the ph do not have or use too many microwaves and the supermarkets don't sell pre packed meals!
I would also agree that this white rice thing in the ph is a huge problem, a couple years ago our neighbours sister was suffering from diabetes in a bad way, we tried to make her understand how bad white rice was for her and try and cut down but as usual she couldn't and didn't think it was relevant to diabetes, within three months she was dead.-

Funny how this has come up today. Like Davy, up until a few months ago I was of the same thought but just recently I am noticing it a lot more and it is in the Younger children around my Purok and I daresay in the Baringay. I say this because most go to the same Elementary school The DOH do indeed need to look at this issue but to me they should be starting with talks at to Dep-Ed
In the UK we had some years ago a very young Chef Jamie Oliver, he was appointed an Adviser to the School Authorities on this very thing. I will try and dig out his writings on the Subject.
In the main he was saying that Schools/Parents today are pandering to children and giving them what they wanted and not what was nutritional and good food for the Growing Body. (My Daughters school has a canteen)
My daughter was complaining of Stomach Pains and the normal bad skin thing of teenagers and a loss of weight. Then all of a sudden she still had the Skin issues (as do most Teenagers) but she was putting weight on [In the wrong places]
Seems that at times and these are getting more frequent lunches are now eaten in the Classroom as Snacks and it is fast Food all the time.
Is it any wonder that problems will occur and obesity will follow if proper time is not given to the taking of proper food at this early time in life.
I will dig out this Jamie Oliver thing when I have more time as I feel it is something that certainly the DOH should look into but I am convinced they do need to work with the Dep-Ed on this as it has a knock on effect at home. Although this is worthy of another thread at a later stage, it is all about The time she has to spend doing Projects for the next day. She is eating at 9 pm after her work then going to bed, Sure thing to add to this Obesity thing and can only follow them in later life.
My thoughts and input so far.

There are many articles by this Young chef (Jamie Oliver) that it would take all day to list them all.
I have put a link to a page that these articles can be found for those that would like to follow up on any of them. To me in any or all of them there may be an answer. I believe he was even invited to the US to help out.( In fact the Bottom Article is just that )
Google
However as with most things, it will have to start somewhere to control this Obesity issue and I believe the DOH should start here and work with schools, colleges and the Uni's, even at home if needed and I am sure it is needed
Happy Reading for those that care about your Kids and a problem that can be solved. Maybe not overnight but.........
