    I don't think it is making us stupid at all. Quite the opposite IMO. Finding updated information is easier than ever, you just have to know where to look. A person does need to have the drive to learn though. How is that any different than before?

    I think that the internet has given the ignorant a platform to spout their nonsense but the idiots have always been there.

    Today a welder/factory worker has the opportunity to learn about physics, advanced mathematics, philosophy, chemistry and so on if they are so inclined. Nothing more than an internet connection is needed. I believe that the internet will eventually make certain traditional university classes/degrees obsolete.

    I do think the internet has negatively changed the way we RETAIN information though. We simply don't have to retain information the way we had to with traditional education with all the information being at our fingertips. But it is hard to argue that kids are not as smart today as they were in the past. They are taking more advanced classes today than they were when I was in school 15 years ago.

    An internet example tonight. I had to buy dinner for us when I was at Rob. Market today, most of the time my wife does the shopping. What I wanted to buy was of course out of stock (packs of sliced ham) so had to find an alternative. We have 7 of us staying at my house now so when I saw a packet of 8 frozen Farmer John brand hot dogs and given we haven't cooked hot dogs at home for a couple of years I took them. I was surprised to see they cost 400p, but that would only be 50p each so not too bad. Two for me and one each for the other 6. At 400p, I didn't want to waste them. I bought a pack of 8 hot dog buns for 30p and was on way. Perfect. When I got home I proudly told my wife I bought hot dogs for everyone so defrost them. Everyone but me eat outside. When my wife asked if I wanted to eat now and told me they already ate, I asked her if everyone liked the hot dogs. She said the hot dogs are for me, they had fish. I should not had been surprised. The hot dogs are now defrosted so she told me she will grill my 2 and refreeze the other 6. I did not know if you can refreeze hot dogs so I jumped on the internet and found if they were defrosted in the fridge and didn't sit out for 2 hours, no problem. If not for the internet I would have trashed the hot dogs.

    To me, the internet world is allowing us to put more into our brain and expand our knowledge, rather than wasting thought and memory of trivial data (phone numbers and such). I think additionally people are more globally aware than before. The internet is educational down to the nursery-preschool level. Sure there is some bad, i.e.. porn and b.s. from terrorist groups, but overall it has opened the eyes of most, IMO.

    IMHO......older folk I think not as they have alot of knowlege and life experience and can only learn more and filter things more effectively! The younger generations may be in question
    in this regard. Granted their are some very high IQ'S among some young but most are as dumb as rocks!

    Can't Ague with this at all my Friend, the Open University has proved the point on this.
    Now this will make you smile. We have just come back from Mama's, apparently she asked one of the kids how to do something and I guess she got a few Shoulder shrugs and to much Laughter she said, My Daughter tell us, so glu, ghoul, thingy you know ah googly it then. ( She is 94) :wink: and they say out of Mouths of Babes, Works both ends EH?
