According to WorldAtlas the Philippines has 8.9 shooting deaths per 100,000 population, which makes it number 13 on the list just behind the US which is number 11 on the list with 10.5.
I wonder if that has anything to do with the challenges in gun ownership in the Philippines versus the US.
"Shooting deaths" include suicides in the US. Suicides should not be taken into consideration when comparing gun crime. In the US your chance of getting shot really depends on who and where you are. The gun homicide rate in the US is: 29.12 per 100k for black men 2.1 per 100k for white men The gun suicide rate in the US is: 5.4 per 100k for black men 14.34 per 100k for white man Your odds of getting shot in the US outside of the ghetto are very slim...unless you are really determined to get shot and do it yourself. 2012: Homicide rate in the US is 4.9 per 100k (67% were by firearm) 2012: Homicide rate in the PH is 6.2 per 100k (don't know the firearm rate)
Compared to Chicago that is a low number. v Google:Chicago recorded more than 1,400 homicides and 6,200 shooting incidents in 2016 and 2017. This year the city has tallied more than 325 murders – 20 percent fewer killings than at the same point in 2017 – and the death toll puts Chicago again on pace to tally more homicides than any other American city.Aug 7, 2018 Chicago has roughly 3 times as many residents as Cebu island according to Google.
The key to not getting shot no matter where you are in the world is to avoid being poor and to avoid being around poor people.
