"Shooting deaths" include suicides in the US. Suicides should not be taken into consideration when comparing gun crime.

In the US your chance of getting shot really depends on who and where you are.
The gun homicide rate in the US is:
29.12 per 100k for black men
2.1 per 100k for white men

The gun suicide rate in the US is:
5.4 per 100k for black men
14.34 per 100k for white man

Your odds of getting shot in the US outside of the ghetto are very slim...unless you are really determined to get shot and do it yourself.
