IMO most of what you need to know is learned in kindergarten with the exception for those that would be attorneys, doctors, accountants etc.
School is primarily to teach students how to be employees and/or soldiers. Very little of what we learned in high school is applicable to real life or was already learned in the early years.
I don't know of any schools that teach kids how to be the boss or the employer. Even MBA programs train their students to be employees hence most go to work for large companies. An MBA does not prepare one to start their own business...yes they will learn some of the things they need to know but not all by any means.
I know this may ruffle some feathers because we are all taught to "go to school, get good grades so you can get a good job."
I know of several people that have large student loans they used to get worthless degrees such as ballet, $130,000 loan. Art, $45,000 loan, Psychology $75,000.
I used to own a company that fabricated and erected large steel buildings in US. We would occasionally buy a building from a company that fabricated large buildings. My salesman and I were talking one day and he made a comment about having a degree in chemistry. He told me he was a chemist for 12 years but could not make enough money to send his own children to college so he changed occupations to being a salesman, (no degree required but lots of other learnable skills), where he could easily earn enough to school his kids.
Many other instances but won't go there now.
We are taught how to EARN money but not how to invest or spend or budget or prepare for retirement. We aren't even taught the history of money or the definition of money at least in part because the teachers do not know these things. Of course it is not in their curriculum either.
May rant for the day....at least I hope there is not another. :stop::stop::stop:

My g/f is finishing her 2nd year in Criminology. Last week the History class separated into groups in order to complete projects. Apparently they were suppose to build house back in their early history. My g/f and her group bought popsicle sticks and a glue gun. They glued a house together. The teacher said he forgo any exam if they finished their projects. My g/f enjoys school so that's a good thing.

I am able to speak with her about the subject as I have a Masters Degree specializing in Criminology. But I can tell you that the way they do things here are not always like the way they are done in Canada.

I worked as a Parole Officer in Canada. One office I worked in had an officer that was from the Philippines. He told me that he was allowed to immigrate to Canada because of his beliefs (whatever they were?). You need to have at least a Bachelor Degree to be Parole Officer in Canada. They accepted his degree with no problem! He was not the most capable officer I had worked with. I think they have tightened the criteria nowadays.

The bottom line for me is that my g/f is content with school and learning new things. She doesn't go to disco and doesn't smoke or drink. If this makes her happy I am all for it.

One last thing, she is starting to get interested in what goes on in the world besides Facebook. She is learning about politics, biology, finger printing, blood analysis, economics and history and so on and looking at current issues with some skepticism. She is asking some pretty good questions about the world we live in.

One last thing, in her course she is given some hands on training. This is something I never experienced in my studies. She has been able to visit the jail here and next week she will firing guns at a live round range. They also train them in Martial Arts.

    Just my two cents!

    Franco

It's also not only at college level this happens, the mistakes I pick up with our kid who is in grade one, their English language and related subjects are terrible.
How these kids are supposed to learn and get a good education with the standard of tecching here is beyond me!
This is also not public schools!
