    Hi folks,

I'm Andy Powell, 50 years old & living in Davao City. I'm a property developer & manager in the UK, doing my best to weather the recession and retire. I have a management company taking care of my business while I'm living in Philippines. I am building a property rentals portfolio here to provide local income for my retirement.

I have 18 years experience of Philippines & have lived in a number of places, such as Sta Maria - Bulacan, Ermita - Manila, Angeles City - Pampanga and Davao City - Mindanao. I started a forum in Davao with 2 friends about 4 years ago which is thriving and has become the pre-eminent expat network in Davao City. We meet every 1st & 3rd Wednesday and if anyone is planning to visit Davao, I'll be pleased to introduce you to my colleagues & friends through the forum. Please ask if you want to know more.

My fiancee Popz is from a small place north of San Carlos in Negros Occ and it is our plan to relocate to Dumaguete so that she can be closer to her family (who I get on very well with, thankfully) and to educate our daughter Andrea in Silliman. I do some community work with a mission school in the mountains between San Carlos & Bacolod, so being in Dumaguete will also allow me to do more there.

I have friends in Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo so Dumaguete becomes a central jumping off point for me, although my ties to Davao will remain strong and it is harder to travel between Dumaguete & Davao. Some of my ex-pat friends have relocated to Dumaguete this year & my fiancee has family in the city too. I've visited numerous times and feel that I could live happily there. If I can find a tenant or buyer for my house in Davao, we'll transfer as soon as the contract is signed.

Hope to make some friends here......

    Welcome from me as well.
Hope for you and your fiancee that you soon will find a buyer for your house in Davao.
Enough still to develop here

Thanks for the welcome, we've been there a lot lately & as you say, plenty to develop still. The north side of the city is still a bit 'native' and most foreigners seem to live south towards Dauin which is too far the wrong side for me. I'd like to be on the north side, not too far from the beach. I want to be in a rural setting so we can plant some fruits but security is an issue...

    Hi Bigboy,

    Thanks for the welcome.

I've experienced fiestas all over the Philippines, including the recent one in Dumaguete. Not really my scene but I do love to put a smile on my fiancee's face & she loves fiesta of course. I think I'd like to do Masskara just once in Bacolod though. It's a mega celebration there & everyone gets involved. Worth it just for the photos.....

Thanks for the welcome Ron. I look forward to meeting you, along with a few more expats when I'm there again shortly.

Are there any expat groups who meet informally for coffee mornings / evenings or even slightly formal as long as it doesn't get too heavy?

There is a group of good expats that meet most afternoons at Mia's in Agan An Sibulan for a beer. Most of them stop by after golf. I'm not a golfer, but I think they meet early some mornings for a coffee before the game.
Look forward to meeting you one day soon.
