Actually it's less than that on sulit. 76USD for 1tb. Seagate has a 1.5tb on sulit for p4000, about 99 USD. Seems it is a bit cheaper here than in Australia

There are two types of portable hard drives. Solid state drives (SSD) and hard disk drives (HDD). SDD is more rugged and much faster than HDD but are extremely pricey, likely not what what you are looking at with either the Toshiba or Seagate at those prices. The key is to check the ruggedness of HDD drives (do they have shock mounts, reinforced external case and other such things).

I have a 1TB Western Digital My Passport. Bought it in 2010 so was pretty pricey back then. I have abused it and it still works great, there is no longer any visible markings on the thing. I had a Seagate many years ago and it worked fine for about a year until I lost it. Never had a Toshiba hard drive but the computers I have had were pretty much crap. I would read some reviews on ruggedness on any hard drive and decide from their. Unless it's a no name brand you shouldn't have to worry about disk failures.

Your call. Most brand name hard drives are identical. Saying things like "ramp loading technology" are just marketing ploys, most have this but call it something else, usually "vibration reduction". All those stats they claim are really just the industry standard.

The big things to look for are SSD or HDD, how many rpms the disk spins at (more is better, up to 10krpm, but rarely marketed and doesn't really matter to the average person), eSATA or USB 3.0 connectors.

I would read online reviews before I invested in another one. Some are much easier to use than others. A hard drive is a hard drive, but all come with different software. The next thing is how user friendly is the manufacturer if you have any problems after the purchase.

Same as ebay. Check the seller's reputation. If they have several transactions with good reviews I would go for it.
