He is a great dog and I hate to loose him, very friendly with family and easy to take on a walk, but he attacked a goat and nipped at 2 strangers. I will only sell to a good home where he won't be tied or caged. P5,000 Ron 0929=6638854
Ron, Why ,if you hate to sell your dog, don't discipline him ? When I just had my sheep my dogs attacked them too. By hitting them with a stick ( bamboo slat) everytime they made a move in the direction of the sheep they learned quickly not to do so. Now they walk in between the sheep, they sniff each another and show mutual respect. Our new puppy however, as small as he is, makes the sheep nervous altough he makes no threatening moves. I will say before you sell your loving dog , try first this: everytime you walk the dog you bring a slat of bamboo and hit him when he makes a unwanted move and show him vocally your disapprovement. Good luck
That may work on most dogs, but I assure you it does not work on all. Our Bully is the perfect gentleman as long as I have the stick in my hand, but has his own agenda when I don't. He is the ONLY dog I have ever had to use a stick to discipline to begin with. I cannot carry a stick forever, it is easier to keep the strangers away from him. Once he knows someone, and he has been around them one time, he is fine. That first time, though, I have to have the stick in hand. This is not a big problem for me, as very seldom to strangers come into my yard. The term "headstrong" does not scratch the surface, and being half American Bulldog and Half German Shepard, he is uncontrollable when his head is leading the way. However, sadly, other than putting Bruno in a cage for the rest of his life, in Ron's situation (high traffic house) it would be very difficult to keep strangers away from Bruno, and impossible for Ron to be there with a stick 24/7. The problem is, he is a wonderful disciplined well mannered companion when myself or family are around, but we have a very active front gate with lot's of people and kids in and out every day. He has been very friendly to all except 2 he didn't like for some reason and that didn't last long. While I was out yesterday he somehow opened the gate and now there is a goat in critical condition. If I didn't have Kids (that leave the gate open) you couldn't pry this dog away from me. In the right setting he will be a wonderful pet.
Well all turned out well, I thought I would be cooking goat tonight.... Lucky the owner was very understanding and reasonable, I paid the P500 vet and med expense and that's it. (My son broke it up before it was too late). For now my gate is double locked, and Bruno seems much calmer. I'm not proud of myself but I lost my temper in the heat of the moment and beat the hell out of him and for some reason he still loves me. Haa Haa
