I agree absolutely with Jack. We pay for a live in with one day off per week 3,000 plus transportation home and back. There are always treats and extras as in food and groceries given for her child and family who live in Siaton. She needs some dental work and we have agreed to that also. Very hard to find and then the trust issue is very important.

 

Not trying to be nitpicking but the tone of your text sounds like you are looking for a housemaid or house girl. If so, don't use the term "yaya" as that refers to a governess or nursemaid for children. See: Yaya Meaning | Tagalog Dictionary.

I apologize if you are looking for someone to look after your children. But, your message sounds like you want someone to do house cleaning. If so look for house girl or housemaid. That way you avoid confusion. Just saying

 

Now don't get me wrong. I am not generalizing just on the Filipinos.

When I closed out my apartment just before moving to the Philippines I had my sister clean my apartment back in Jacksonville, NC.

I needed a second set of eyes just incase I missed anything. It is not like here in the Philippines where it's okay to leave it trashed and run away from your responsibility. In the states. They won't let you go without it looking like the day you moved in.

I was very hard and strict on my sister because I was paying her about 60 USD. I needed it to be spotless but she understood why. I wasn't being an ***hole. I was just being a tight*** and she understood why. Here in Philippines different way of thinking.

I need my house clean because I hate those d*mn ants. Those little things take a piece of my soul each and every day. I need things clean do they don't have a reason to come into the house.

I have been to Filipinos house and it's just the norm to leave food out and have ants and flies surround it. They find it rude I don't eat or touch it. I have another word. Sanitary!

If I find a yaya that does a great job she deserves a good pay. I am willing to do so to keep a good working yaya because I'll admit. Sometimes Americans can be a little spoiled, but we do have our reasons and we were raised like that.

Ants and flies on my food is a no-no.

 

That is my biggest concern with hiring family. I don't mind family but that being said. Family members sometimes think they can have it easy because their sister hired them. I could give two ***** if they want to jump off the Empire state building holding hands as long as the house gets clean.

Also of the members are asking for money and I tell my gf. Are their legs and hands broken. They can come over and pick up a rag and dust mop and clean the house and I'll be more than happy to pay for it. I will not give it to them for free. It creates bad behavior. I did it once to her sister. She came over cause she was desperate for money. She put herself in the position and for 3 days of work I gave 4 000. She never asked me to borrow money again. I guess working for a peso around here is such a burden.

 

If you don't really need a live in I'd look at someone coming twice a week or so for a few hours each time for cleaning. I used to pay 150p and how quick they were it is what factors into how much time they are there. Then you could easily get away with calling them self employed contractors and it couldn't really be argued. Even easier argument if you recommend them (assuming they are worth a recommendation) to a couple friends for other times they are vacant. No need to pay up the rear end if don't need the work, worry on sss or philhealth.

But as long as live in full-time helper your obligated around 3k a month, 1 day off a month (better 1 day off a week though), philhealth and sss. This is the benefit of having a family member where you can skip some of the nonsense, pay a bit less, but take care of them well. My fiancee's mother stays with us as yaya/helper and we get a good deal as she's a hard worker but the best end is she isn't being used as free childcare by the family w/o pay or even enough to but tobacco and no one covers her medical needs which we do.

We have someone in the area that does clean houses and the first time I ask when he/she/it (ladyboy) has a day off. The thing tells me tomorrow. Tomorrow comes around and found out the creature went to the beach. So I approached lady Gaga and it acted like nothing ever happened. In my mind, I am thinking just wow.
