As a local cat rancher, having up to as many as 15 at a time, I do not have a rodent problem, never had. Once in a while I cut back on the food, and soon dead rats end up showing up in my yard, so just by cutting back on the food ration, I eliminate any neighborhood pests.
It is not difficult to collect cats in the Philippines, just put a bowl of food out, and you will soon be an anonymous cat owner. When you go away for a trip, you do not have to worry about them as they seem to know how to take care of themselves.
If anyone is interested I have 4 females about 8 weeks old available. A limit offer: They are Free exclusively to all Dumaguete Forum members as long as supply lasts (for non-members I am charging $1000 USD per kitten, so this is just another benefit for members here). They have been handled, come when called, and are very friendly. The are all calico in color (three different colors). Feel free to PM me if you are interested in a tame well manner kitten. Please note: There is no mouse/rodent disposal problems with cats, they even bury their own sh*t.
The best place to buy cat food is JB Marketing, which sell Princess Cat Food at 108 P/KG, Fancy feast cost approximately 550 P/KG and there are many other alternatives between those too price extremes.

Every fall in Canada the weather starts to get cold and the mice come indoors looking for a winter home.
The best mousetrap I have found is one that will catch 10 mice automatically. Just wind it up and place it where the mice tend to go, usually up against a wall.
It consists of a sheet metal box with a paddle wheel. You just wind it up the mice walk into a small opening in the side, they step on a trigger and a paddle wheel flips them into a holding container. There is a window in the top so you can see how many mice you have in the trap. After you catch the first one the others seem to come soon after. I think the trapped mouse raises such a fuss that his friends come to investigate and soon end up in the trap with the first one.
Bonus! now what do i do with 10 live mice? Well if you have a neighbor who is a pain in the @ss or someone you don't like. Just head over and set them free in his front yard..
Check out the link to see the trap in action...

I find the Sticky boards inhumane, Some of these things will chew their own legs off sorry there are other ways of doing this.
Warfrin based poisons do the job and they go of and die elsewhere.
That's me Folks, But if our pets are doing the Job there would be no need, Rats stray Chickens and others don't Live long in our Garden.-

Matiao hardware has a steel wire cage with a spring loaded door that never fails to catch rats alive with no mess or poison and very cheap, if you get small field mice like I do Tops and Bottome has the same thing in a smaller size. The bigger one has around 1/4 inch squares that are big enough for the small mouse to excape.
I don't have anyone I hate enough to release them in their yard Hee Hee, so I drop the trap into a bucket of water till the deed is done. I find the best bate is Pizza crust or any dry piece of meat.-

After reading all the different points here, I will make my case for the wire cage trap I use. I too am an animal lover and have 4 dogs that I would never take a chance with poisoned mice they might eat. I have a young daughter who often has her friends playing in the yard, so I would never leave poison laying around. The sticky paper gets real messy and is a mess to try and pry the dead rodent off to avoid buying a new one after every use. The cage trap is in my opinion the best way to go. No mess, no running to the store every time I see a mouse and no danger of anything or anyone getting poisoned. As for humaine its fast and relatively painless when the caged critter is submerged for a few seconds under water, then the trap is ready to go again.

Just please remember that Dogs and cats Sweat through their paw pads, if they tread on sticky pads that are Toxic, it can create a problem if they don't clean their pads they can't sweat if they do they can too be poisoned, so in more ways than one Sticky pads are not always good.
That is my take on this as an animal (Pet Lover)-

I use the sticky boards as opposed to the rat/mice poison. I have a cat and my neighbor has many cats, so my using the sticky boards eliminates accidental poisoning of the cats should they happen to catch/nibble on a dying rodent.
And for sure, I know the boards do work when one gets stuck on it. I dispatch the fellow to his afterlife and then the dust bin, knowing I have one less to mess with.
