Yesterday , about 10.30 am I saw on the corner behind Lee Plaza / Clang a man and a motorcycle lying on the street. He was bleeding profoundly from the head. People just stopped a tricycle to bring him to the hospital . So much for no need of a helmet while driving in town!!

AS I DRIVE MY 4 WHEELER TO & FROM! I SHUDDER WHEN I SEE A WHOLE FAMILY ON A RICKETY OLD BIKE, NOE WITH PROTECTION, EVEN THE KIDS!! AND GUESS WHAT? THE FIRST ONE KILLED IS THE PASSENGERS!! THE DRIVER CREATES THE HAZARD ON WHEELS, AND THEN KILLS HIS FAMILY! NO WONDER THEY CALL IT A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY!
MAYBE THIS NEW DAVAO PRESIDENT WILL INSTILL SOME FEAR IN THE POLICE FORCES TO STEP UP AND DO THEIR JOBS!! TIME WILL TELL!! IF HE MAKES IT INTO TIME!!

Funny article. Yep, the law is just a suggestion as far as Dumaguete is concerned. Nothing will change things here w/o sending in some major harda$$ LTO chief from someplace else and forcing traffic enforcers and police to the job as well.

I still find it funny though they talk now and again how *ohh that helmet law is ignored* yet ignore how many drivers w/o licenses, registrations, plates, working and used lights, illegal lights, illegal mufflers that cause major traffic distrations (when driving my motorcycle I definately use my ears a lot to listen what is coming), and simply bad drivers. Who here especially those on a motorcycle has ever heard of someone here taking a physical driving test? Pay your fee and get your license, no knowledge required.

Indeed we are! Only the other day I saw a kano backrider on bike driven by his wife/gf - both no helmets and the guy holding a baby in the traditional pinoy hanging off the side of the bike position. I know the locals can be excused this kind of stupidity but what excuse for a westerner to adopt such irresponsible practices.

Need to weed out the stupid and weak one way or another I suppose. Personally I don't care if their entire family ends up dead because they overcrowded a bike and drove like a madman. What I do care about is them being a danger to others and putting safe drivers be them on two wheels or 18 wheels at risk.

Just think what the roads would be like if tomorrow all of a sudden the police and LTO were out in force requiring no more then 2 passengers per motorcycle, must have working lights, must have valid drivers license, must have valid registration, must have valid plate or valid temporary plate# (or new vehicle). Enforce all the things that are for road safety reasons on all vehicle's, drivers, and passengers. Of course it would never happen but the roads would be near empty!

Helmet law: another nanny state "we know what's best for you" law. It's not like in the US where the tax payers are going to be footing the ER bill. They will die on the steps of the hospital. Not smart enough to wear a helmet? Oh well, no real loss for society IMO.

As of January 129 motorcycle accidents reported. I'm not going to assume that they all happened in January as it is vague but they could have. I also tend to believe that for every one accident reported that there are 10 that are not. Who is going to report a single rider accident if nobody died? As for no congestion entering or leaving town on the highway? Someone needs to have their dosage lowered or they need to start sharing their meds.

Not wearing a helmet should be looked on as not wearing a seat belt. Make any insurance held on the car or Bike null and Void. :bag: both are mandated laws But....................:banghead:

Lets hope its fully implimented this time, especially the no lights on national highway. I have noticed a decrease in those idiots with noisy mufflers in the past few weeks.
