It has nothing to do with the internet. Before the internet "fake news" came from TV and radio. Before that newspapers. Before the printing press it came via word of mouth. Fake news is human nature. It has always been there and it will always be there. The guy who screams the most these days about how unfair it is to him used to directly participate in the spreading of fake news about the previous president. (But he doesn't like talking about that anymore.)

I remember watching on the news after a London terrorist incident. The police spokesperson said that after a terror incident, eye witnesses are the most unreliable source of info available as they are all scared and the all start to see bogeymen everywhere.
Having witnessed black clad men getting off dive boats in that area I am leaning towards the idea that someone saw a bunch of 9 divers with spear guns coming back from a dive and the story went nuts. But that is not to say there were no fisherboats with bad guys, just that I am not ducking for cover right now until I hear more about the story.
Let me add another twist. When I lived in Cebu, in an complex with other foreigners, one scared guy came running in to say he had seen a bunch of terrorists in the area. What he had seen were guys with their shirts over their heads, wearing dark glasses, probably a bunch of those guys who cut grass with weedeaters having a break.- Like x 3

It occurs to me that: If Philippine citizens, with licensed firearms, land a boat on Santander beach and get out of it with their licenced firearms, and since there is no martial law declared on Cebu island, what exactly are the authorities supposed to/allowed to do?

That is in part why I posted the FAKE News links in another thread... With the local gossip you believe 1% and ignore the other 99% and with all of the FAKE News sites, as well as the unscrupulous 'legit' News sites clamoring to be "THE FIRST WITH THE NEWS" it is almost the same % ratio in my way of thinking, but it seems like so many to WANT to believe in 'worse case scenario'...
Oh, and they exist everywhere...- Informative x 2

How does anyone ever really even know that these "boogeymen" exist? There's so much fake news going on now in the world.
