2GO has recently re-opened several of their old routes that had been suspended, one of which is the CDO/Dumaguete route. CDO to Dumaguete Saturday, Dumaguete to CDO Sunday. It appears this interruption may have been in part to enable them time to drydock all the newly acquired boats as well as all the Superferries and paint them pretty pink. Larry
Hi Larry. Just let Me know if They ever decide to open up the MNL/DGT route again. I'm still surprised They discontinued it.....Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised...cheers
this is good news. It always seemed ridiculous to me that there was no ferry from Dumaguete to CDO. Is it direct? Sometimes ferries, like the one from Cebu to Iligan, stop off somewhere first before they get to the final destination, in that case Ozamis. A link to Iligan and CDO might be an idea, however it would put at least an hour onto the time it takes to get to CDO.
This is direct, the old Cebu Ferries route, to CDO on Sunday, to Duma on Saturday. When 2GO first took over Cebu Ferries they changed it to Wednesday/Thursday, then they stopped it altogether, but now it is back to the original schedule and most likely the original repainted boat (which was a nice enough boat). 2go's prices seem to be much to high for the roro services. The driver is not free for motorcycles, only for cars, from Batangas to Caticlan. Last year the rider WAS Free from Ormoc - Cebu with 2Go, but had to talk them down from their initial price (originally 3k for Ormoc - Cebu, talked down to 800).The price was 4k for a motorcycle and a driver Batangas - Caticlan. Go to Batangas - Calapan on any other roro service and it's 600 pesos (rider is free). Drive down to Roxas for 400 or less in gas and go roro Roxas - Caticlan its 1,100 pesos (rider free). You save money and save yourself the hassle of 2go's customer service policies and not knowing if you are being taken for a ride on the the price. What really erks me is that you cannot find their prices on their website so I have no way of knowing if the fixer, liason, guard or office girl is ripping me off (and yes I had to go through all those people prior to getting to the actual window girl....the prices steadily went down as I got closer to the actual window but still not low enough to justify).
Oh and 2go simply would not allow me to buy the super saver ticket. They wanted to force me to buy the higher priced ticket and just didn't care if I walked away. Screw 2go shipping. Concerning Dumaguete to CDO: well I'd rather drive to Sibulan, catch a ferry to Cebu Island, drive to Cebu, go to the port and catch a ferry to CDO than go to the Dumaguete port. Dumaguete has to have one of the most corrupt ports I have ever been to. I actually received a death threat from one of the fixers whenever I refused to let him take my papers and pay the loading staff for me. I actually had to physically snatch my papers from him and push him out of the way of the window because he was so aggressive. And then there are the porters, don't touch my bags, I'm not paying you! The entrance fee that only foreigners pay. Pay the Coast Guard. Screw all that, I'll take my business elsewhere. Now I have been to the port in awhile so my apologies if it has changed.....i highly doubt it though.
Another option may be flying. I use to go to CDO on the ferry. One of the problems is the limited number of routes from Dumaguete. I would have to spend a week to return, it is still that way it seems. I found I could back travel to Cebu, almost 6 days of the week and return to Dumaguete. That cut down the need to stay a week. I would take the Ferry at night, the only time it was available, and pay about 1,400 P plus or minus for a long overnight trip. Recently when I checked on the airlines it was only 1,700 P and only took a hour to fly there, and there were many more times and days available to travel. I have not taken the plane since I have not had the need or desire to go to CDO since I found out that information . But I would certainly consider flaying as option on my next trip. It seems like currenlyt the plane schedule are changing quite often.
" But I would certainly consider flaying as option on my next trip." You REALLY NEED to get there when THAT becomes an option in your travel formula.... Scott
