well, plainspoken... i happened to pass by P&E gym today and google was correct, it's almost directly across the road from the flagpole in the park, so best call in asap and reserve ur gin and tonic before the rush.

I guess that it is quite difficult to import the necessary equipment like training machines, cardio machines, saunas and other training and wellness equipment. And then you need properly trained fitness trainers and teachers. For a health center it is also necessary to have someone trained in areas like food lore and nourishments. A good locality is necessary also. And I'm not sure in the Dumaguete area is big enough to bring enough customers to keep the center running.

The criteria you are citing does not make a 'real health club'. A real health club has steam, sauna, jacuzzi, free and nautilus type weights and aerobics, massage, and so on.
Once I proposed to a friend that we start such a club. He remarked that the foreigners here are too cheap to pay 40-$50 a month to join such a club. Maybe if they offered a cheap in house bar with go-go girls? I think he's probably correct. But I would pay that much for a real health club. I doubt you will see one anytime soon.
It's too bad because labor here is cheap as are repairs to equipment, so why not? One reason is that it's a royal pain in the butt to start a business here and doubly more so as a foreigner with Filipino controls.-

There's really only two gyms / fitness clubs in town worth the name, and both are substandard at best. Four C's (formally World Fitness) at Silliman Gate on Hibbings, and P&E, around back & upstairs, just across from Freedom Park / The Capitol, on the north hiway. The others in the city are airconless and/or unconsiderable, though there is a tiny nice but expensive gym at a Dauin resort, for those who can brave the commute. My categories are rated, 1 (awful) to 5 (great) stars *, as follows;
Four C's P & E
Location------------------------------- ***** **
Size------------------------------------ * *
Cleanliness--------------------------- * *
Price----------------------------------- *** (1200/m) *** (1100/m)
Staff Attitude/ Friendliness -------- ** *****

Cardio Machines Quality/Maintained * *
Dressing Rooms / Showers--------- ** **
It's too bad that as of yet no wealthy local or foreigner has tried to open a REAL gym here with enough space and quality, well maintained stuff. We sorely need a proper one with real squat racks, a stairmaster, racquetball/squash, and all the other fun toys most fitness centers take for granted.-
