Phew, good thing I don't have a doorbell.

Also a good thing I'm not a lawyer that has a job requiring me to get involved in local disputes that would give people the perception of me being responsible for them losing money.

Also a good thing I'm not a politician competing against other politicians that would rather shoot me than have a debate on policy.

Also good thing I'm not a drug dealer stepping on gang territory or getting in the cross hairs of the police or their death squads.

Also a good thing I'm not a criminal who has gotten away with crimes leaving my victims to feel they need to take matters into their own hands.

Shall I go on about things that I am not that could very likely result in me catching a bullet? Show me a person randomly shot and I'll show you 1000 that fit into one of the above categories.

    I don't know.
The delivery riders always call me on the mobile phone when they get to the gate. There is no bell.

We order online and a lot of times we get to meet delivery men from Ninja, Black Arrow,LBC, etc. in all shapes and sizes and very often I get paranoid, too so I'd ask questions from a distance to confirm, then ask members of the family if they are expecting deliveries, then if confirmed, we do the necessary transactions.

Ring (door bell camera) has really taken off in the USA. You see examples of someone being caught on camera doing something stupid almost weekly. It sounds like a good investment in the Philippines too.

A man in black, masked, and asking for your name when you're not expecting any deliveries or visitors needs to be eaten by your dogs.

I think it's sad that you feel fear just by someone ringing the doorbell.

I am not used to live in such fear, but I am not from USA and not been here for that long.

We also get get delivers from Lazada ect, but we don't have a doorbell too far away So if anyone comes to the gate they have to yell which sets of our dogs barking.

Hey Glenda, yes, MetroPost confirms he "....went to his house’s gate to check on some visitors who pressed the buzzer."

Which confirms my original question of Why TF would anyone walk out of the house for two guys in black jackets with faces covered with helmets outside your gate, or even one ??? Too trusting. Especially if you've lived in NYC or any other big city STAY ALERT.. ...

ANOTHER LAWYER SHOOTING IN LAWLESS DUMAGUETE

From Rappler: <<....Riding-in-tandem gunmen attacked a 74-year-old lawyer in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, on Friday morning, January 3. Ray Moncada survived the attack but remained in critical condition, said police.

According to a police spot report, Moncada was leaving his house when he saw the two suspects waiting for him outside the gate. The lawyer immediately ran back inside upon seeing the men, but they managed to shoot at Moncada and hit him.

Dumaguete City police immediately responded to the incident and rushed Moncada to the hospital where he underwent surgery. Police were still investigating the motive for the attack on the lawyer>> . The Rappler also pointed out that "...the first recorded attack on a member of the legal profession in Negros this year," which is great news until you remember that it was only the 3rd day of the year.

Two thoughts, one, we never go out until we see who is at the locked gate, and TWO, NEGROS WILL NEVER IMPROVE UNTIL THE VOTERS VOTE OUT THE CORRUPT, INEPT, OFFICIALS (which of course makes me a minor target for the corruption here).

And until the cops continue investigating after catching and releasing the lowly shooters and go after the BIG shots that put out the hit, nothing will change..

At around 8:30 this morning as I was driving to the house of my friends a parked police car and a crowd of onlookers made me slow down. I knew something was wrong---- it was either an accident or another shooting which, unfortunately, has become a regular occurrence in this city.

It was another shooting incident. The smell of gunpowder was still there when I drove pass the area. I wanted to stop but the place was blocked.

The victim was a 74-year-old lawyer who is known to many as a good person. That morning, he was at home when the doorbell rang. Since their house help was still on holiday or vacation, the lawyer went out to answer the doorbell. A man wearing a helmet was there asking for "Atty.__________." That was him. Alarmed, he was able to run back in but the helmet-wearing man fired his gun five times, hitting the lawyer in different parts of the body, except the head. The shooter fled along with some companions while the victim was rushed to the hospital and is now in stable condition.

Obviously, it was a gun-for-hire who did it. But what is really scary is the fact that these criminals now have the audacity to enter your house or ring your doorbell to do their evil mission.

In fact in Manila, some criminals were caught disguising themselves as Ninja or delivery men to perpetrate their deeds.

Incidentally, a couple was also gunned down in Bayawan I think today also. Both victims died from gunshot wounds by motorcycle -riding assailants.

We need to have a strong leadership in this province.

What a way to welcome the New Year.....
