Have been going around looking at the places that provide the smog check. Took a trip today. Went towards Sibulan, up through Bagacay to Valencia and down the Valencia/Bacong road and back into town.

We have a total of 3 sites available and they are packed. One place even schedules times, if you are willing to wait 3 days to get in line.

Motorcycles are taking up a huge portion, maybe because of the checkpoints, they now have to finally register. Wait till the fine for previous years comes due, that should be good.

So, now what used to take me about 30 minutes from home to back home, will end up taking hours. Wife said she will go to a place she visited today who told her to come in about 6am tomorrow. Bless her little heart, she knows how patient I get waiting in these lines. We will see how it goes, I don't expect her home till 8 or 9am, and I am being optimistic.

But still a Happy Camper. I told her I would take a drive out toward Bias and maybe find an out of the way station that wasn't as busy. She said no, she would take care of it.

When I first came to Dumaguete 2001, the smoke down past Lee Superplaza was unbelievable. Smoke testing has made one hell of a change together with the abolishment of two stroke pedicabs. From where I stand, smoke testing works but in the Philippines there are always ways to get smelly trucks and buses passed as you well know.

Follow up. Wife went to get the check done yesterday. Got there just before 6 and was given number 14. Not to bad except for one little problem. The day before they had the infamous "off-line". So there were a bunch there from the day before.

She finally came home around 9:30 with no test. But the owner told her to come back today and she would be taken care of.

Went back again this morning, said it was real crowded but the owner was true to his word, she was back home just after 7 with the inevitable 'passed' certificate.

    Can't wait for next year.

Come out the Port and head north. First one is just past the first turn to the left through the Chinese Gate on the right. If you went straight along Rizal towards Lantaw there is another one tucked away on the left side. The other one is High Point, intersection of National Highway and Aldecoa. Again, travelling north it is on the left, turning right would take you to Silliman Medical.

Just stand inline and eventually you will be done......complete waste of time IMHO as the vehicles you see or try to see on the roads often are hidden in a smoke screen. Can't understand why the Smoke test is not combined with 'other safety type checks' as the Hiway gets straightened out speeds are increasing and 4sure more serious accidents will occur. By the way the smoke test place just up from Port on LH side is OK. they will process the papers 4U takes about 1 week.
