I think it is clear that no research into running a business in the Philippines has been made. The OP's naive, vague and/or cryptic responses when asked for more information about this business opportunity he wishes to recruit a partner for shows that this is either a scam or a very poor investment opportunity (insanely high risk/microscopic returns) for anyone to partake in.

Given that the OP has not given any meaningful information, despite being given several opportunities to do so, this thread has been locked. The OP is free to start another thread, however, any talk of business partners will need to have a proper business plan attached to the opening post or it will be removed from the forum. This is not a place to promote scams or ill-advised investments.

Are you aware of human nature:

    1. Partnerships with family or others can end in disputes (different ideas, different amount of the workload being carried out by each person)
    2. Some smart looking guys are crooks and will fleece you. So know your partner very well. Many schemes sound great on paper but often fail in reality.
    3. Not a good country to have partnerships with locals - you will be seen as having money and they will think they should have some of it! Not all - but most I think. Foreign wise men say here something like 'if you want to have 10 million pesos here in your bank account then come with 15 million.'
    4. The people who look sound will be very cautious of dealing with you - they don't know you. It may be that the keenest to work with you might be the least suitable.

hi englishdave. well there are two rules to enjoying life in a tropical paradise like this. first, you have to live between the tropic of cancer and the trop of capricorn. that is about 40 percent of the earths surface and includes such places as the entire country of peru. the second requirement is (to enjoying life here) is do not work at anything. best advice i have seen here so far is bring 15 million pesos with you. i will add to that, invest it in something safe in england and live the good life on the income. at the very least, come here and live two years before you even consider putting money in anything including buying a house or condo or business. life here can be very good dave if you don't assume it to be like england in any way! good luck always!!

Have you done your market research? What is the expected ROI? What percentage of foreign ownership does your business allow on the negatives list? Have you ever ran a successful business? Have you ever ran a successful business in the Philippines?

Many of us have seen the common pitfalls foreigners fall in to (or have been a victim to it ourselves). Personally, I have seen a handful foreigners that were very successful (most of these came here with a very large initial investment and/or a well thought out business plan and market research), a few that are always struggling barely making enough to pay the bills and a whole lot that have had their businesses go t*ts up in short order. It isn't crushing dreams, it is being realistic and being prepared.

And please remember, the question posed here was not about starting a business, it was a very vague request for a business partner with absolutely no information offered when it came to the actual business. Everyone involved (OP and forum members) should approach this type of request with extreme caution. A post like this is blood in the water and could very likely attract plenty of sharks...or it could be bucket of chum being thrown in the water to attract potential prey.

Agree - and especially the lack of laws to protect your interests. Pick the wrong partner, have a dispute, go to Court, wait 5 years, lose your case because your partner is well connected .... OR .... have a dispute, he pays someone to silence you (permanently). It can cost 10,000 pesos (about £160) to end your life here.

Knowing people here, promoting a business and keeping a low profile? Please explain this idea. The only way to accomplish that is to be a financier with a good front person. This is Dumaguete we are talking about. I sold my business here in 2010, due to the fact I would rather have a low profile.

Good luck and may the force be with you.
