There's a laboratory called Curie Laboratory near the boulevard and its charges are only 1/4 of those fees in big hospitals. And you get your result instantly, in a few minutes. Curie Lab is situated on the ground floor of Spanish Heritage near Bo's Coffee, boulevard area.

This comparison is about prices/fees. Not about quality

this was very informative, thanks for going to the time to do this.

i have never been to SU so i have no first hand information about that setting. i would say that ace is very easy to use as far as the lab is concerned. registration, business office and lab are all within 150 feet of each other and registration is about 30 feet from the front door. very low volume of patients and i have never had to wait in line. they have told me too that they are open 24/7 for outpatient lab so when i go at 6 a m its like having my very own personal lab! i order what i want and pick it up 2 hours later which is also pleasing. its helpful to see the prices are competitive with SU.

[QUOTE="shabbynomad70, post: 227807, member: 5623" one of the nice things about the phils is that when i go see a doctor, that is my second opinion. i make my first using google and local labs and then see if the doctor agrees with me![/QUOTE]

We can agree on this one, mon ami.

Even in the UK I did the same thing. GPs are 'Jack of all trades but masters of none'.

I remember having a very sore eye, like a brick was lodged in it! FIVE doctors looked and said there is nothing there - eventually I asked my wife (at that time) to look and she immediately spotted an ulcer under my eyelid. Took her about 30 seconds.

In the UK and in Phils, I have disagreed with the opinion of medical specialists on two quite important matters and was proved correct.

Best to have an idea about a condition before being fobbed off or treated incorrectly.

I think with or without. We went there to have blood count done on my son without any doctor's note.

I can't give actual comparisons with current prices, but in my experience (and not just mine, I think I've seen it mentioned by others also), if you need medicines and you don't mind getting a generic drug rather than expensive branded drugs, your best bet might be Generika pharmacy. The one at Noble Franca street is my go to branch, but I think there's at least 4 of them in Dumaguete.

When I worked in haematology in the 70s, we had a machine that gave a full printout of blood results within seconds.

i see lots of small labs around the city. i used to use "moms laboratory" near the park downtonw. results in two hours. i changed from them because they started requiring a doctors prescription before they would do testing. as of now ace will do it on your request and give you the results so i prefer that. there is always some question of the quality of "mom and pop" shops however i never had any suspicions about moms. moms also have a fairly limited menu to choose from. one of the nice things about the phils is that when i go see a doctor, that is my second opinion. i make my first using google and local labs and then see if the doctor agrees with me!

For dengue or blood count, yes--you actually sit there and wait a few minutes---witho big hospitals they will ask you to come back in the afternoon for the results. Curie Lab only does testing. It has no other services but hospitals are into everything with too many patients coming in and out. Curie Laboratory is way cheaper and gives faster service----no long waits.
