Part of the problem with mail in this country generally is obviously that just about nobody has a proper address.
Many roads/streets have no name, many houses have no house number.
Every time regular mail actually gets delivered I am surprised. How the couriers manage to find where to deliver documents/a package shall remain a mystery to me.

My gf received a package here in Valencia (addressed to me) from Japan a few weeks after it was sent. They sent me a text message when it arrived and asked if I could come pick it up. Maybe adding a phone number to the shipping address would speed things up?

I was glad to know that my license was not delayed because of the US Postal Service. Retired from there after 38 years. As it arrived in Manila 10 days after mailing. But, when our Wells Fargo debit cards expired during this time, we used DHL...paid $75 fee, alot more than $2 spent on USPS, but received cards OK in 1 months time. It is better to bypass Phil Post if possible. Lesson learned.

    As

has been mentioned, the UK post codes are auto-scanned and directed accordingly at sorting offices. The principle of the coding is quite simple. The first letters representing the town/area, the following numbers before the space representing an area within that town or area, the first number after the space being a sub-area and the final letters representing the closest you can identify without a dwelling name or street number, but usually down to the level of part of a street or road. These can be used for mailshots/advertising when wishing to target defined areas.

    You found the flaw!

Another one being that the direction they point to is never correct.

Waiting for a letter from the UK sent in April (snail mail). I wonder if I will receive it this year! Not holding my breath.
