Fellow forum members, I was vaccinated Tuesday with the Jannsen (Johnson & Johnson) jab. It was a very small needle, nothing former military members would even notice. It burned when they injected, but I had no ill effects until later. Having received the dose at 1000, 12 hours later I woke up feeling feverish. As many explain, you don't actually get sick, but your body treats it as a real infection, thereby building your defense. Two days later, my arm is still sore, but I feel like I'm almost 100% already.

The Jannsen jab is a 1 dose shot. I got it via the Kuwait government donating it to the US military here, but it doesn't sound like it is available in the Philippines yet. I like that it was one dose and resulted in the issuance of a COVID vaccine card. Apparently the efficacy isn't as high as the two dose jobs, but I have the card, so I'm happy.

I received my second dose of Moderna yesterday on the base in Guam. Felt nothing with the first dose, woke up this morning with a bit of soreness in my shoulder. Got the COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card.

How do we know this form is put out there by the government? There is absolutely no indication of who made this or who is collecting/storing/using the information.

Note: I'm not accusing you of anything here. A government should not be collecting information in this manner. Full names, identification card numbers, insurance numbers, phone numbers, private health information. Wtf are they doing collecting this information through anything other than an official (and secured) government website/portal? Amateurs.

Until now. Humm. It could mean different things depending on the context.
When the mechanic asks about the repair he did on my car, "good until now" means everything is good.
When my old boss would ask how are you today. Good until now had an entirely different meaning.
I think you can interpret the meaning from Tuba Coma as "so far, so good"

I can understand hesitancy to Sinovac because I share the same concerns, yet I decided to take it. I delayed for several days to research it as best I could. The clinical trials and real life experience with this vaccine was in Chile, Turkey and Indonesia.

All the trials took place later than and in areas with more new variants than did Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca. I say this not to dispute that the other vaccines are comparable to Sinovac in efficacy but to point that the efficacy depends on timing and location and all the early vaccines would almost certainty have lower efficacy figures now.

The area where the lowest Sinovac efficacy was recorded was Brazil, there they were giving the second dose after only two weeks, they have since discover that almost all vaccines provide much better with a longer wait between doses so now they are waiting 28 days.

The trials and real word data show that when given in the proper time frame Sinovac provides substantial protection against severe illness and death. Real protection comes two weeks after the second dose, little or nothing for the first month.

Sinovac was my last choice choice, I would not have taken it if all the data came from China because, frankly I don't trust them. None the less I am glad I took it and look forward to my second dose on may 20th.

Please don't construe this as an argument to persuade you to take Sinovac or in fact any vaccine. A lot will depend on your age and personal situation and believes, but I did find it a interesting decision that many of you may have to make yourself in the near future.

Perfectly correct - I have done this visit to major vaccination centres, only to find some closed and getting the impression that there really is no urgency here.

To see why they would find it difficult to provide simple online information, just look at the official lotto site and see that they seem unable to put the draw numbers in order and can take 4 days to publish the result. This is a national organisation and the most simplest of information - but they seem unable to do it.

Perhaps the slogan should read 'It's more f*cked in the Philippines'.

To me, “until today” suggests not sure what is going to happen, especially if discussing Covid.
    Stay safe everyone.

    From the link you provided:
    It goes on to say:
You then go on to post numbers from this same website showing a conflict with their "total covid deaths" and government's official numbers. The website, by their own admission, is counting covid deaths differently than governments are counting them. This is not a conspiracy to cover up deaths or a flaw with government reporting. It is one website deciding they are going to count covid deaths differently than everyone else.

    I don't know.
Ideally, this is a qualitative discussion that associates reason with the quantitative analysis.
Simply having a longer list of numbers does not make ones case. I could have listed every day in the trend but decided to list one day every week. The idea was to show a trend. That the growth in the number of cases is beginning to take off.
OK. So we wait a week.

People do not understand the longer term effects of exponential growth. When it starts it is not significant.
It appears to be doubling approximately every 10 days.
2 cases become 4. What's the big deal it is only 2 more cases?
    Now 400 cases
400 cases becomes 800. Wow 800 cases is a lot now the hospitals are near full and we cannot get enough oxygen.
    20 days later.
800 becomes 3,200 Golly, wish we had done something.

Another factor to consider is that in wealthy countries it was estimated that only 1 in 5 infected people were tested. There were actually 5 times more infected people than listed as confirmed cases. The tests were free in wealthy countries and a person essentially received free health care and paid time off work if they were sick. There was some motivation to get tested. Here the situation is very different. People are very poor and the tests cost money. Here we can assume that the ratio of sick people to confirmed cases is much higher.

The local administration has been doing a good job of rounding up contacts and isolating them in isolation facilities to reduce the spread. (This did not happen in wealthy countries.) This only works within the capacity to do contact tracing. Once the case count gets over the ability to do contact tracing, then this resistance to spread will no longer be effective and the number of infections will grow even faster.

The national task force screwed up. We were doing great. Most of the economy was working. For the most part, people do not need to travel between islands to do their daily work. Construction was going full tilt, restaurants were open, etc. Members of the tourism industry pressured the task force to require the elimination of quarantine for inter island travel. Now we have the variants that are more contagious and have been knocked off the balance we had achieved. Additional restrictions will have to be put in place that will greatly hurt the economy. The national task force screwed up.
