This is engrained in the culture here. Take responsibility for nothing, get offended by constructive criticism, deny deny deny even when an undeniable truth is put in front of your face, blame someone else.

I am extremely unlikely to give any opinion or advice to a local when asked, especially if the person is asking for advice on a situation that they put themselves into. Good chance they will just get offended, deflect, try to turn it around on me and say I don't understand what it's like to be Filipino.

Perhaps a consideration for some. I have a boy turning 10. I want him to be able to take care of my wife later in life, so a good education is necessary. So we prioritize our limited money and life style to send him to a private school since he was 2 and supplement that with the Kumon math program the last two years. I’ve seen from a few of his classmates, there are some very bright kids. So I believe there is not a heredity IQ problem here, just an extremely bad education system.

    Absolutely!

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubt while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

When you are dead, you don't know you are dead. It is difficult only for others. It is the same when you are stupid.

Politicians and diapers should be changed often, and for the same reason.

Interesting and pretty much true from what I've seen.
The last paragraph doesn't ring true, they said Filipinos are intellectually inferior. Possibly they meant academically inferior.
It's a bit shocking that an academic would make such a mistake.
Intelligence and education don't necessarily go hand in hand.

SP, I'm not so sure I totally agree with what you say, it is a well known fact, that the average IQ here in the Philippines is around 86, I think it is fairly obvious you are not born with a low IQ and would explain why the better developed countries with better education systems are much higher in this respect, take any Filipino and have them educated in Singapore where the average IQ is 105 their IQ would be raised way above the Philippine national average, I'm sure with better education systems the same goes for intellect and a low grade singing and dancing education system just may hold back a person with the potential to be highly intellectual?

The stupid ones are clever enough to ensure they employ people even more stupid - surround yourself with stupidity and you look good (as with Boris in the UK).

I have also met many very bright kids and adults here - the public education system is not giving many of them the opportunities they deserve. It is not that difficult to fix.
