I'm with you. Seeing how quickly the numbers are increasing in the US, it surprises me that overcrowded densely populated slums in Manila haven't seen a huge explosion. Most are likely dying in their own beds based on my experience with the public hospital situation in the Philippines. I wonder if it's much worse than advertised or if maybe the Filipino people have some level of natural immunity due to their exposure to organisms from their living situation.

Those of you that have expensive health insurance may have wasted your money.
My backup is a Saint Peters burial plan. It may also be money wasted as I've heard through the bamboo telegraph they will not handle Covid19 casualties.
If I met my maker my wife has been instructed to have lots of cold beer and potato chips at my wake. That's not going to happen either. She feels it's in bad taste to throw a party.
Looks like the only sensible thing to do is follow Notmyrealnames advise and don't get sick.-

It soon became apparent who to listen to and who to ignore - the intelligent ones listened to sensible advice and the rest listened to anything anyone told them.
If this virus had been given a free run, with no intervention, it would have killed many innocent elderly people but also the World's IQ would have shot up.-

I am beginning to get the sense that the world is going to have to let the virus play out until the killing is over, vaccines are developed and put out to the masses, and people have to be smarter to stay alive.

There has been a lot on the internet about Dumaguete and this crisis. I gathered the only hospital accepting virus patients is the Provincial hospital and they don't have any respirators. There are around 10 respirators in town (FB) that are at the private hospitals.-

About 1 week ago, the life partner of a very close friend had very severe pain in the lower right side of her abdomen. At 3am her mother brought her to the Provincial Hospital. The doctor there sent her to ACE Hospital for a lab test. In the meantime, her life partner had also arrived at ACE Hospital, but was waiting in the car. Then he received a message from his life partner that she and her mother were refused entry to ACE Hospital because they were not wearing a mask. ACE Hospital refused to give her a mask. So my friend went to the entrance and asked for the nurse in charge. After a discussion with the head nurse, his life partner (without her mother) could enter and have the urgent lab tests done. This solution was acceptable to my friend.
Of course it would have been better if the life partner had brought a mask. Nevertheless, it is understandable that one forgets the mask in case of very strong pain and stress. But under the suspicion of an acute appendicitis the ACE Hospital could have provided 1 (one) mask, couldn't it?
It is very questionable that the ACE Hospital closed the hospital for corona cases due to scarce resources (masks and protective clothing) but also due to overworked staff. With this action ACE Hospital putting an extraordinary burden on the colleagues at Silliman Hospital. Because one thing is clear, Silliman Hospital has to deal with the same problems.-

I read that as they do not have protective gear... if they all get sick who will take care of every other medical problem that arises... I for one understand ....

Correction: it was Silliman Hospital complained of that transfer. Ace is owned, I believe, by physician-investors.
