Correct Dave & Imp, I phoned WU via their Customer number just last Thursday to change the name on a pickup, after giving them the name they phoned me back via my Contact number to verify who I was, then advised me that the money was ready to collect immediately in the newly changed name... Takes all of 10 minutes on the Phone via a Free Call Number

    Cheers, Brian

Hey, I am new here and this is my first reply to anyone, so if I am not communicating well, sorry.

I always use "xoom" to send money. faster, cheaper and easier than western union. there are other services like xoom also I have read.

never had a problem with my recipient getting the money, picture i.d. only

    just a thought

Well yes and no. xoom's exchange rate is almost as horrible as WU .. within 2 centavos. I think both of the their fees are a shell game and you'll never win. I've used WU several times when I've needed a large amount quickly but I don't like to.
What I've been doing now is writing myself a check from my US account to my BDO dollar account and letting them play with my money for free for as long as they'd like to .. first time was 21 days as I was told and second time was 30 .. "because of week ends and holidays sir" .. apparently Sep had no week ends.

I used Xoom a few times then they notified me that I could no longer use them here in Australia, that was around 4 years ago and I forget the reason why, so I just let it go and switched to Western Union. For Transferring money I feel WU is the safest and most secure way of doing so, but their Fees SUCK!

Has anyone tried Fourex? I tried looking into it and emailed them but no reply.

Also I looked into this one but could not work it out and again they did not reply to my emails...

Tried all three methods of transfer

I have used all three methods, WU, Xoom and writing checks to BDO. My goal was to get my money from my US accounts to the Philippines. For those on US SS I have been told they can deposit directly but there are other issues.

BDO is good method, as it is cheap. However during the month of December 2012, I wrote a check on Deceember 1, it was clear on January 3, due to holidays, and the Typhoon which closed the bank for a couple of extra days. So if not having your money for an almost indentiate period of time suits you this is the cheapest way. However you do have to plan ahead, and they is no way to get money here quick.

WU is a good method, just do not convert to Pasos. Use WU, pick up dollars at Robinson Mall, walk next door to Excahnge store and you get a better deal. Two step process but worth the 2 minutes to do it. Stop using WU because they were not always open. Money is quick. Locations are limited.

Currently using XOOM. They are very fast, send me an email with in hour verify that the money is there. I send in dollars and pay the rate. I would send in dollars go to BDO, wait to pick up dollars at R. Mall, then walk the length of the mall to the Exchange store, as the BDO exchange rate was usually about 25 P different. This worked but was cumbersome method also.

    Best method for me

Used XOOM, sent money right into my dollar account at BDO. Only had to stand in line once to get money when I wanted to pick it up and convert it to pasos. No rush to get money, as it is immediately put into my account. Did the Mall walk to the Exchange Store. Their rate always seemed good to me. This seems like the easiest way to make a transfer.

Caution on Xoom. There is a limit on amount of money you can send with XOOM. They now say right on your electronic application the maximum amount you can money. You can get the amount raised, if you want so submit more data. I chose to keep mine at a little less than $3,000USD and keep my privacy. I once had to submit data, they wanted date of birth, social security number and name. NO WAY I fought the issue and the Filipino based in Manila who I called on a US number, finally gave in when I asked to talk to his superior. The reason, with Date of birth, Name and Social Security Number they can steal your identity. Never give out those three things to anyone.... not even you mother if she is Filipina.
