I find this thread very interesting - it seems people wish to ARGUE over the ways individuals are wired. Some clearly are very comfortable with pictures of the deceased being shown on the internet and some are very much against it. Some cite the fact that the person is dead and so has no feelings about it and some show concern about the feelings of those left behind (I fall into this camp).

    No one is wrong!

In some cultures people eat other humans -perhaps their relatives. I find that distasteful (pun intended!) but I cannot criticise that cultural stance.

LOL! And by the way, since I know you're in the area, this was in Bayawan (near the Pagatban Bridge).

Regarding cultural differences, there's a decent Filipino movie from 2003, "The Crying Ladies", on the subject of Filipinas hired as "professional mourners" for wealthy Chinese-Filipino families in Manila. I saw it many years ago with the asawa. It won the Best Picture Award that year at the Manila Film festival, and actually got a pretty good review from the NY Times.

There's a copy of it now on YouTube, but unfortunately doesn't have subtitles:

Sad. A lot of details are missing in the news story which said that he was married but the name of the wife wasn't mentioned. According to the story Smith must have died from an ailment. Still for me, an autopsy is necessary. Where was the wife when this happened? Who found him dead in his apartment? So many loose threads in this story.
