 Strange thing to be talking about at a Wedding but Yesterday, at a Wedding I attended, This issue of annulment came into a conversation. Having never been involved in this sort of thing here, I was Surprised. It came to light that this can cost over 100.000 php. Is this correct? Who Pays? Is that each or the whole thing? I was Divorced many years ago and it was expensive, This sort of Figure seems out of the reach for the norm here I feel :( anyone out there got any Idea.

Annulment is typical for the Philippines, based on the fact that divorce don"t exist.
The meaning of annulment is :"there has never been a marriage"
For that reason, no-one is responsible.
Also typical for the Philippines, it is a playground of corruption.
If you can't afford, you don't ask for annulment, if you can afford you know that it will cost much money and 100,000 pesos is a very low amount for that.
Most of the money goes to lawyers, judges involved and the partner who is the "victim" of the request of annulment.

Most of the people getting to have the annulment are people who got the means and or the the ones involved with a foreigner who wants to do it legally on paper.

The poor ones just simply leave the family and start a new one (and nobody gonna condemn you for that...it happens almost everywhere - husband or wife having another partner, and is normally 'accepted').

A friend (foreigner) of mine looked into annulment costs in Makati. Required fees cost around p25,000; however, attorney fees can go as high as p300,000 in Makati, I assume less attorney fees in outlying provinces (p100,000). As bad as it sounds, trust me, nothing compared to a California divorce.. I have a N.O. attorney friend who does this, if anyone wants to know his contacts. Maybe better to kiss and make up.

    Interesting Posts!

:eek:Thank you all for the replies so far, I can understand now why there are a few bad marriages where people stay Together. These replies certainly woke me up a little. I don't think I have met anyone who has had an Annulment so I was totally unawares of the implications, in all this time Cory has never mentioned anything to me about friends, certainly I am not aware of any family Having had a marriage Annulled. Well we live and learn!

Actually, I had spoken to a lawyer and a judge, who are friends' of mine a few weeks ago about annulments, since a foreigner friend of mine was asking how much an annulment costs' here in Dumaguete.
The lawyer and judge both said it’s going to be Php 120,000. That’s for all the fees and filing fees,
Excluding the Psychiatrist, this will cost about Php.30, 000 here in Dumaguete. Total in all would be approximately Php150, 000. The one who filed for an Annulment is the one who will have to shoulder the expenses.

A foreigner friend went through a very nasty annulment a few years ago in Cebu.
There were 2 kids involved. In the end it cost around a million pesos. He wound up with the house and the kids. It took around 3 years to complete.

 OK! now WHY? are we talking physiatrist here? Are we saying that a medical report is needed to say " MY Spouse has Cheated in me or Beat me? Seems that it is just a money making thing. Wish I had never asked this Question.

 Firefly, I accept this as fact BUT if it was, as if there was no marriage, What about the Children! are they maintained by the offending Party? Of course if it is NO ones fault, where do the Children stand?
