 Last week I had malfunction with McAfee Anti-Virus. When I renewed my Subscription, The Anti-Virus conflicted with my on line back-up ( Also McAfee) it shut me down for 3 days, Eventually I uninsulated the McAfee Anti-Virus. On restart I found I had lost my Start up Sounds. ( Also certain other warning sounds) I have full Sounds on Cd's and programmes. I am certain it is the driver on the SU Bus-Controller. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone offer any help to sort this out. When I test the Sound and Audio it all works but not when I open. The volume icon is just making a beeping Sound. HELP! Please.

If your sounds to your CD rom and other programs work, then it is not your sound card but a setting.

Easiest way most likely is just to do a system restore back to the day before everything happened.

If using Windows XP, go to Start, Accessories, system tools, System restore and follow the prompts by selecting a day highlighted in BOLD which is a day before everything happened. It should reboot.

Failing this you can then proceed to the next step.

Go to Start, Control Panel then Sounds. There is a theme in there which controls your startup and shutdown sounds...check these to see if it is set to windows default.

    Hope it resolves your issue.

My recommendation is just to get rid of McAffee and use AVG Free starting today.
It's problem free and outstanding protection.

Then, just use this anti-malware program and do a scan once a week or when you suspect you might have picked up a parasite program....

I visit the "dark side" of the web quite often , and I can testify that this combination works!

    Sorted!

    :wink: Thank You for the answers I received. I put them all together and did this;

    Uninstalled Yahoo Tool bar.
Uninstalled private start menu (Went to Windows default)
De-Activated Microsoft security Essentials. (although, can't uninstall)
    Did a System restore. (Ninja)
Re-Booted using the last known Working set up. (Ron from previous)
    Installed AVG (Manzanita)

All, Back to Normal, Thank You those that offered help.

Now my Sound System is OK

    Thank You!
