So like in the movies, tv... Can the court order the one being filed upon to pay for the lawyer of the one filing?
In the Philippines if you want to win in a lawsuit in a speedy manner you don't need to hire a good lawyer.....you need to hire a crooked Judge! :o You know the difference between a Lawyer and a Catfish? One is a bottom feeding, scum sucking creature....the other one is a fish!
lawyer pay peanuts and you get peanuts there are very gud lawyers in town maxino mercado myrish etc and of course its the same then in every country ,including the states,. they are working for money.
Much good advice has been pasted along here, but something most lawyers won't tell you: Avoid court and legal action any way you can! I have yet to meet anyone who was glad they went to court or took legal action in the Philippines.
Derivative Guru is again so very right. The lawyers who tell you the same thing as he is telling here, are very likely good lawyers. At least the good ones I have met DID give me the advice to do my best NOT to make it a court case.
Just consulted with two actually, and jeez. Just one mention of I'm gonna file against a foreigner and its like a piranha smelling blood. Anyways, they're d*mn corruption turned me off in filing anything. Even though the foriegner is a complete douchebag, he is not worth it on me staining my honor. I'll let Karma handle him instead
I'm not completely sure those are necessarily the good ones. I would probably categorized them as the money savvy, streetsmart lawyer who play their "percentage" well. Lawyers want you to settle because that is less work and easy money for them. Going to court takes forever and is hard work and there is always that chance of losing the case and them not making any money at all, especially if it is a "contingency" deal. So it is more the law of diminishing return that prevail in the practice. Sometimes at the end of a very long case you get a windfall of cash or rewarded with sumptous amount of money, but that is like winning the lottery, does not happen very often. Lawyers have a basic idea how much money they can potentially make on a case. The deeper the pocket the better (foreigner, they presume have deeper pockets). If it is just for pennies, they'll push you to settle because it is not worth their time. They want to get what they can then they bolt out of there as soon as they can so they have more free time for the next potentially "big" case.. simple lawyer philisophy. If a lawyer tells you this is BS....think again and common sense will direct you to the right answer.
"Lawyers have a basic idea how much money they can potentially make on a case. " That goes for every business men as well and a lawyer IS ALSO a business men. It all as usual depends on the agreement you made with the lawyer if he 'does not mind' to have a lot of court meetings (if payed by you per court session ) and sometimes these sessions are even only visits to the place while the case could not be really handled coz e.g. of missing 'participants'. The lawyer who did try that game with me I did fire immediately. I gave him the 'balance' and said not to need him anymore. Otherwise I was sure to have a high number of court visits. This lawyer was advised to me by someone as a VERY good lawyer, hahaha (because it was 'his friend' )
