Forget the Politics, where heads of Government are changing hands rapidly. The on going war in the Middle East continues spreading it own destruction. The next big catastrophe is upon us.....Wildfires. Wildfires and lack of rain water is allowing massive area's of France and Spain to become tinder boxes. Fires are now out of control in places as thousands of people are being evacuated to safer ground. Even in the UK, parts of Scotland and Wales are struggling to contain their own wildfires. The loss of Habitat and Wildlife cannot be ignored any longer, Climate Change is Real. Question is; Is the World prepared to continue to consume and destroy what is left of the Lungs of the World? I'm not a scientist but I do believe climate change is very serious. A lot of people seem to think "okay it's getting hotter but we can just turn on the Aircon". A little bit true but not completely. When it becomes too hot for crops to grow they will start to understand the depth of the problem. A lot of climate change is from CO2 I believe. Big oil is doing there best to convince people renewable energy is BAD. Some people spread crap like wind turbines cause brain cancer.. whosh, whosh... It takes a special kind of idiot to believe that. Some people are dead set against EVs. Where I lived in Canada the -40 C in the winter would be a problem at least if you wanted heat in your car. In Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver they would be good. The problem might be showing up in parts of Europe now but it's a global problem.
Climate change has been a big issue in science since before 1988, the year the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was formed. It has proved a big problem to convince the general public of the seriousness of the issue, despite the IPCC reports and Al Gore's efforts. Moreover: 1. As with many long term issues, politicians are usually only interested in stuff that gets imminent before the next elections; this slowed the response considerably. 2. Economic interests complicate the response, any single country taking serious measures to combat climate change loses international competitiveness in the short term if other countries don't follow suit; in other words effective measures need to be agreed upon and implemented in cooperation. The 2015 Paris Accords pledges are the framework for these measures in cooperation, but the Orange Sleazeball frustrated the outcome considerably by withdrawing twice (as if the opinions of 194 other signatory countries don't matter). 3. Counterproductive lobbying and advertising by fossil fuel proponents. Meanwhile the likely outcome, bar some as yet unknown technological solution, appears sadly such that by the end of this century much of the planet will be no longer be fit for habitation. Of course the wars about access to the remaining livable parts of the planet will likely start long before the turn of the century. My grandson, age 12 and admittedly a rather smart cookie, is already suffering from depression (and no, I didn't tell him what I think). And yes I know, hindsight is 20/20, and I'm definitely not free of sins with regard to climate change. Lastly, yes I agree those wildfires in Europe are horrendous, and I fear it will only get worse going forward. As for the "lungs of the world" aspect, just like people don't care enough about the destruction of the rainforests in the Amazon and on Borneo, they very likely won't care enough about healthy forests disappearing in their backyard.
So if everybody does not agree to go for reversing climate change it's all over then, turn up the a/c, have another drink and spend all your money now,
People are stupid but smart at the same time; they'll find ways to grow crops as the weather changes. Be it hydroponic systems and/or using misting systems for the cooler crops. Perhaps our diets change to what can be grown in our environments. If we are to believe science the earth has seen mass extinctions and massive environmental changes and somehow we are sill here. Not something I'm actually worried about. Shawn
IMO, The crud we put in the atmosphere, land and bodies of water is not healthy for us or almost every other life form on earth. Earthlings are capable of destroying all that supports life, as individual nations and possibly as a single human. I do not believe earthlings are capable as individual nations of cooperating to the point of repairing the damage. How's that for depressing? How bad is it?
