    :D Hi all,
We arrived in Dumaguete on Friday. We currently live in Paranaque but we hate it there and as soon as I stepped off the airplane in Dumaguete, I told my husband, "this is where I want to live". I have not changed my mind after doing some traveling in Valencia and around Dumaguete City. I love that the pollution is much, much less than in Metro Manila, there are much fewer people, and the people here are so much nicer!! As we walk down the streets here, we ultimately run into 1 or 2 of his cousins (he grew up here), and that is a nice feeling, too. My daughter and I were walking down the boulevard the other night and she (looks filipino like her dad....I am a very white girl from Oklahoma) loved when we walked by the "Why Not" restaurant and there was a very big table full of white people "just like, you, mom!!" I definitely blend in more here, too!! Anyway, we are looking at houses, plan on purchasing one.....if anyone here knows of any nice bungalows for sale (preferably not too far from the beach, but we will look at anything), please let me know. We looked a some yesterday, but we aren't in a huge hurry, as we have a contract on a townhouse in Paranaque until June.
Take care, and I love your city!! I am sure I am seeing some of you guys and just don't know it.....I am the younger white girl with the older filipino man....not so common so we are easy to spot!!

Hi, Marie - Welcome to Dumaguete! Rick and I have been here since August and have been very happy. We moved from just outside of Washington, D.C.

Keep us all posted on the plans for your permanent move here - good luck with your househunting!!

    Sue

Well, I haven't seen you yet, but me thinks you will be easy to spot also! ;-)

By the way, I'm a native Arkie...so we will be neighbors for a second time!

    Hi Marie,
have a good time in Duma. What is so attractive in Valencia ?
If you stay 3 weeks more there, maybe I will spot you on the boulevard because I will arrive within 2 weeks in Cebu and after 3 days I will take the bus or plane to Duma. Can't wait and count down already (here in Europe).

    Reedee/Marie,

We have a bungalow very near to the beach:
View to Apo Island, bungalow at 60 mtr distance from beach, 2 bedrooms both with AC and shower/CR with warm water, living room with open kitchen and terras.
The bungalow is situated in beachpark ApoVista; a subdivision at the sea in Zamboanguita at 24 km from Dumaguete centre.
The bungalow is now rented for a year but we are planning to sell it when the renting contract is ended (September 2010).
Send me a PM when you have certain interest and want more details.

Wow, a very unique combination---a very white woman and a Filipino husband. I am glad that our Filipino men also attract white women. It is usually the other way around. Welcome to Dumaguete!

    Thanks!!

Hey, thanks you guys for letting me know that there are other "Southerners" (US) right here in Dumaguete, besides me!! What I have decided I have to do now, is find a place to get Masa Harena so I can make authentic mexican food!! They say there is nobody around doing it, and I do know how to make enchiladas!! I know I haven't found anything but flour tortillas and white flour only (I have only checked in Manila, though).....I may have to ship some of the corn flour in balikbayan boxes myself and freeze it. My husband is DYING for enchiladas!! Thanks for the welcome!! We are going to Bais for a couple of days and will be back in Dumaguete until Saturday, then we have to go back to Paranaque (I don't want to go back there!!). In due time, we will be planting our roots right here.

You'll be my new best friend if you open an authentic Mexican restaurant here!

We now have Mooon Cafe (a small chain based in Cebu) at Robinson's, but it is hardly authentic Mexican. I am still waiting for a brave restaurant entrepreneur to bring a Thai restaurant here also.
