I was wondering if anyone attended the Cebu Guitar Festival last December. I have read some excellent reviews on the net. I heard this years guitar festival will be held in late november based at the Outpost, a live music venue in Cebu.

Anyone been to this event or intending to go ? By the way I can play less chords than the Sex Pistols so won't be participating.

The amazing musical ability of the filipinos is one of the reasons that attracts me to retiring there. But I will have my big stereo set up and anyone giving me the shits with their karaoke will get a loud blast of AC/DC from 1979.

    cheers

Lofty, was planning to go there but couldn't make it. Friend of mine had a great time at the festival. I definitely will be there this year.
you should move into my neighborhood... AC/DC fits into my food-chain, i can't be loud enough... hehe

well by november I will be making a visa run to Cebu, so that sounds like a great excuse to make two reasons to go. There was a guitar orchestra giving a concert at Silliman a little while ago, but I missed it by one weekend, didn't look at the calendar, stupid mistake, and there is little press coverage to remind you of these things unless you are on the look out.
    Thanks

I checked out the Cebu Guitar Festival at YouTube. Last year gun US guitarist Bruce Conte (ex Tower of Power, Earth, Wind and Fire) performed at the festival. It appear that he might live, at least part time, in Cebu. The venu Outpost is also on YouTube. Great to find there are alternatives to the bikini bars and crappy duff duff music joints in Cebu.

If anyone knows of other live mucic venues in Cebu, Dumagiete or Bacolod where they play rock or blues , please let me know.

    thanks

I would love to have a small blues jazz club in Dumgte, At Ading's the best we can offer so far is my exrensive MP3 blues, bebob, funk, 60's rock collection playing via my laptop through the "shudder" Karaoke amplifier.

We have permission to knock out a wall at Ading's and do an expansion, however the location off the Bvld., the investment, and lack of paying customers for that kind of music is needing serious thought. And then where to get blues musicians? I have not found any so far in Dumaguete. (except one drummer). Rock comes in many flavors, there are some good players, but what kind of rock will you get, want? Rhoody plays the ACDC variety quite well. and I admit it is fun to play, but from a paying customer standpoint who will pay to hear it?

I know as well a person who would love to have a blues jazz club in Dgte.
He does not play drums and did not find any other blues musician yet.
See.....it looks if we haven't experienced enough our capabilities yet to figure out our possible commonalities.
Blues/jazz you have to play with a group of similarly 'deviating/misformed' personalities.

Very true about having to be unique to play that stuff. I always thouhgt of that guy as a Dixieland stylist if that is whom you refer. and talented to play trumpet with house of the rising sun.

    Hahaha ..people do easy forget.
Will help you a bit Rhoody:Jambolaya was never proposed by that trumpet guy although he simply played what others already started
Even terrible AC/DC, if at least the patern of chords were recognizable for him in the sound scrimmage :D
You know ....'House of the rising sun' is an excellent example. Such a song/melody can be easily converted into real blues !!! It has all the ingredients.
It's all about musically expressing feelings. It makes it a blues when playing it that way, and ....... supported by a stimulating drum-backing

YouTube - CEBU MUSIC GUITAR FEST BRUCE CONTE

US bluesman Bruce Conte at last year's Cebu guitar festival. He's looking good for a guy who was playing with Tower of Power in 1972. I went to a Buddy Guy concert recently. These old blues guys get beter with age. Less speed but more feel.
