Some question as to the origins and meaning of ANZAC has surfaced
ANZAC day is on the 25 April each year . ANZAC is an acronym for Australia New Zealand Army Core and it is a highy respected tradition to celebrate the tragic loss of over six thousand soldiers who where sent to fight on the the shores of Gallipoli in Tukey in a misguided attempt to thwart the involvement of the Turks in 1915 in WW1. Sent by Churchill to save his own soldiers the Australians and the New Zealanders ... or the Ozzies and Kiwis collectively known as Diggers and are now reknowned for their ingenuity in fighting tactics in trenches sometimes only meters away from the enemy. They were drawn from all over both countries many from farming areas and because of that they were fierce and inventive and tough adversaries for the Turks who had the higher ground and all the advantages.Per head of population the ANZACS represented the highest contribution to the war front and the many cenotaphs in small country towns built by the returned services league (RSL) is a sad testament to this dedication as many families lost all their men and sons and many towns lost half or more of their male citizens . It is from this that Australians and Kiwis enjoy an indelible friendship even though the friendly rivalry and competitivness can sometimes seem to contradict that .
So on Saturday 25 April at Andys Private Gardens on the waterfront, there will be a "MOB" of Aussies and Kiwis celebrating this day to respect the fallen .. and no doubt there will be a few fallen brown bottles and some good larrikin style humor ... we encourage and invite all to attend ... no need to be an Aussie or Kiwi ... just come and meet some nice people ....

    Cheers ..see yas there

Sorry I missed your group gathering. My internet, Globe, has gone to an occasionally operating condition, much like my brain in the last few days, so I thought the meet up was Thursday. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.
