DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Davao City Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that they will officially charge an Australian national for carrying a firearm through the F. Bangoy International Airport (also known as Davao International Airport) last September 10.
Ian Maxwell Parker has now been officially charged for violating Republic Act #10591 (the Comprehensive Firearm and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Parker is accused of drying to sneak and disassembled firearm through security scanners at Davao Airport.
Court papers show that at approximately 11 a.m. on September 19th, a baggage inspector at the initial security checkpoint at the airport told security officials to check Parker’s luggage after the X-ray machine detected a dark image inside that looked like a firearm in pieces.
Upon inspection of the bag, authorities discovered a dismantled .38 cal. Llama pistol inside.
Parker failed to show any legal documentation allowing him to carry the gun – he also claimed to be an antiques collector and the firearm found in his luggage was part of his collection.
He was arrested and detained at Sasa Police Station after his initial arrest.
Police say that Parker availed his right to a 10-day preliminary investigation into the matter – he was then given an additional 10-days to file his counter affidavit, which he failed to do.
