    We are with the branch opposite scoobys, the staff are allways helpful, not very informed on things, but allways helpful, but that doesn't help much when you are at checkout at Lee Plaza with a trolley fill of groceries and your card wont work :( :(

    Yup, I'm seriously thinking of dumping BPI. I've been *alright* with them only so far and hate going to the bank to do something as their queue times are insane while look in any BDO or other bank and its fairly reasonable. I've complained for years about wanting a debit card with a visa ability and its gone ignored until now and yet this debacle I hear about when they are 3-4 years behind other banks.

    Not to worry. I heard they hired the guy from LTO who is in charge of plastic driver licenses to fix the problem.

    I will continue to use my American CU VISA debit card at the ATMs. What BPI is doing to its Customers challenges traditional notions of Customer Service, and I mean global notions, not just American. I always thought that those who want to handle your money should be trying to please you, not drive you away. But thanks to forums like this we are forewarned against falling into such a trap of stupid business practices.

    Whilst this about BPI (Primarily) I am of the opinion that it is not just the bank but the new cards in general, PNB BDO and Landbank are/were also having problems, I have a good friend who shopped at Hypermart and at least 5 attempts were made to purchase, it was only when the supervisor used a reader for International cards (which were usually chip cards) was used that the sale went through. I myself tried to use the PNB ATM and met the same fate on one of the ATM's (They have 2 at Real Street) one refused the other accepted the card, I called into the bank and was told yes the left hand one will accept magnetic strips until the 1st April. But not the chip pin, on the 2nd I used the left hand one and it had been reset for Chip cards. So now Both will process chip but not magnetic
    Now I wonder if the Outlets accepting card purchases are actual not helping here. The bank tell me that they should have had the Readers amended to take Chip cards (Costly exercise?)
    We all blame the bank but if the outlets,; Shops etc are using now defunct Card readers how can we really blame the banks. (not really sure I fully believe this but) letters went out to Outlets about the change over date, which was (and for PNB did happen) April 1st. Many outlet Readers would no longer process "magnetic Strip cards"
    So for me on this I think maybe it is the Outlet reader at much fault here and not just the bank.
    Just a suggestion but has all members with BPI asked about this especially with thier ATM's :pompus:

    I guess my objection was the way they required Customers to come and stand in line for hours and fill out forms to receive the new chip cards. Also, During the transition, it should have been possible for businesses to accept both cards but then again I should not be comparing the way the transition may have occurred in other countries. But it stands to reason, if I bother to own a business, I might want to take extra measures to ensure I could accept both cards so as to allow Customers to give me money. In my case I have simply been using a USA credit card or debit card with chips and have had zero problems and always charging my purchases to Pesos. It sounds like the new cards may not be ready for prime time if the international chip cards work but the local ones do not.

    You are more than probably right but all this I was told was geared for 1st of April now just at this time mine is OK and apart from the checkouts at Lee Plaza finding a Reader that will accept My new Chip card The new one is doing OK, We were at Polaris Yesterday and all was well there on my paying my account but then Perry Loo has new equipment, so could it be as I post?
    Incidentally, I found an email from my bank that was from February 2017 informing me that all this was to change and to replace my cards. Maybe things are taking longer because customers pay no heed sometimes to correspondence and notices put out for this reason.
    I wonder if we will get any more postings on this now we are April 11th and 10 days after the supposed changeover.
    Question;
    Is anyone still having problems with the new cards? :hmmm:

    I find it surprising that so many expats use BPI and similar banks where they are SO busy that the line-ups are always crazy. There are so many subsidiary banks and other stand alone banks that have almost zero lineups and better service. It almost seems like many expats are lemmings, going where-ever the pack goes instead of researching for themselves.

    Example: RCBC is a major bank in Philippines but has much smaller lineups than the BPI. And yet RCBC savings bank is a subsidiary of the former and has even smaller lineups. Both of the RCBC banks have Japanese roots so they are not "fly by night" rural banks.

    It may be cultural but I really am “so busy” that I hate standing in line when there are other far more enjoyable things I could be doing. In fact I hate it so much that I will look for any possible alternative business who does not require me to stand in line, either to receive my own money or (wtf?) to give THEM money. I do not think most of us are lemmings, I think we all seek the best Customer Service and when we find it, that is where we do business. Forums like this are especially helpful in letting us avoid wasting our time at establishments whose EMPLOYEES seem to pride themselves as “ customer-no-service”.
