Beetroot

Doesn't mean anything...but my wife tells me that whole beetroot was being sold in La Carlota years ago...coming down from the mountains...No idea if it is still the case....We've grown it in the backyard here - but the local economics means it isn't worth the time and effort.

 

They definitely had beetrot in Robinsons last month, in import section. It was pickled in jar. Maybe they sold out or maybe the same guy who bought all the baked beans from Lee got it! Fortune Mart used to sell it in can but had it once and it wasn't very nice. Finally Lee Plaza often have whole beets in the veg section.

 

Yes nice_sherwood a salad is not a salad without beetroot, every time a have a Bacon burger at whynot the only thing missing is yup you got it beetroot

 

Try Times Mercantile ( Up a few doors from Immigration) Since Fortune mart packed in, They seem to have taken over the unusual things, even silver skin pickled onions. From Time to time, they have good old HP brown sauce, Any way, have a look. Conchita's ( opposite DEW foam) have some imports as well.

My wife says they don't grow it here, they only have ube which is more of a red or white yam.

 

robinson's has had ''beets'' (the dark maroon globe thingie) in the refrigerated produce section on and off for months. they are labeled ''sugar beets'' but they are not the beets grown for sugar in the states.
