I think the guy was just giving his opinion. He openly explained his bias. He was being far more honest and open in his article than many of the people in the comments.

An interesting read, long and rambling at times but worth looking at his experience on a short visit vs. what he learned about the PI from different family members living in the US. I found the comments most entertaining; folks busting on FilAms and others that weren't "pure" Filipino. It did seem like the ones that like his article were mostly working overseas or were living/raised in another country.

The story is a bit long but the rambling bits are some pretty good observations from the writer.
Comments following the story are interesting. It seems all the Fil-Ams' liked it, some Filipinos enjoyed the story. Then there where the Filipinos that didn't like it and thought he should shut up and go home because "this is not his country", I'm guessing these folks didn't like the writers political views.- Agree x 3

We all view a situation from our perspective and filter based on our biases. It's unfortunate there isn't a device that can tell a story without these influences. On a macro level, I think societies get what they deserve/earn/allow. This is true of every country, although it's easier to see in countries like North Korea and Afghanistan. Life like physics, seeks an equilibrium point. A point where the what we get is equal to what we are willing to sacrifice.

This is quite a long read but there are things I didn't know like WWII medals of Marcos displayed at a museum. The end of the story is quite interesting to me.

I haven't read the article, just wanted to comment on the title: "Filipinos believe what they want to believe"
So do every other group of people.- Agree x 2
