Best electric guitar and amplifier?

it has been a while since i have been in the phils, but there used to be a music store in cebu SM that had some low end fender gear. i always start my students on the electric coz they are so much easier to play... you can play a lot longer without the stress and strain on your finger, hand and wrist and as you develop, they are so much friendlier to bar chords and upper register play. i recommend a tele type guitar coz they are very easy to set up, re-string and tune rather than a strat with a vibrato-- advanced skills required for the same. another advantage to the tele-- when i travel to the phils, i take apart one of my teles and it fits perfect into my suitcase. after you play for awhile, you will need to have your "new friend" with you at all times so this will provide you with a travel guitar as well. i'll let you know if i can make it to dgte soon or not. as far as amps go-- line 6 and marshall make good entry level amps that are not tube (tubes do sound the best) and they have built in effects that sound o.k. and an added plus of head phone jacks so that you wont offend.

 

The Marshall MG-Series you get at JVS are original Marshall. It is Marshall's cheap series, but original.

BTW, the Marshall Haze-Series is made in India and the MA-Series in Vietnam. Even the most "original" UK series have more Asian interior than UK-build.

 

as an epilogue, i recently purchased a VOX amp made in viet nam actv 4 -- 5 watts 1 el 84 tube with dial up attenuator and distotion. these are excellent practise/ small gig amps. since they are produced in asia, they may be available to you for a very modest $$ around 200 u.s. i do like the line 6 stuff coz if we as guitar players have toooo to many beers etc and leave the amp on all night--- no problemo. by the way.... to film guy..... ricky skaggs is an incredible talent and a perfect gentleman--- ther aren't many of us left--- and be very careful with your MARTIN acoutics coz they may blow up from the humidity if you transport them to the phils... ihave a vintage D 35 and a gibson acoustic, but i think the only one i will bring is my ovation-- bullet proof--later john lennen

 

So, I've narrowed my choice to guitars available from the following....

Chinese Fender (Squire or Telecaster), Ibanez or Fernando.

Can anybody tell me their good or bad experiences with these brands available?

 

hi again; each guitar has its own voice and personality. i would play them for 5-10 minutes each and see which one feels the best to your hands. avoid anything with a tremolo system for now-- they are just too difficult and tempermental to deal with. plug them in if possible and test for tone. the reason we all play is tone and if doesn't sound killer to you, don't buy it coz you will not want to play a lump guitar. try all the pick up positions and the volume and tone control knobs. if you can find a good sounding tele that feels gooooood in your hands....that would be my choice. Leo fender got it right the first time in 1951 when he created the tele and we still marvel at them today. i own 7 of them and they are my go to guitar, even though i have lots fo strats, les pauls prs etc.. later JL
