I am an avid BBQ man and just got a gas BBQ grill so I am seeking the best place to buy quality beef for grilling. When I lived in Davao there was a great retail meat store called Lisa's Meats. Any such quality meat shop here. Seems there is not much marbeling on the meats I have seen around in the supermakets here so that would lend itself to a dry piece of cooked meat. Any suggestions would be appreciated including cooking suggestions when dealing with inferior quality if no other choice.

    Thanks

I can't help you with finding the beef, but have you looked at any of the cattle beside the road? One look will explain why the meat is not marbled. I hope you have good luck finding the beef you seek as I would like to get some too.

    Happy hunting!

    Frozen Beef

Landman, if you don't mind buying frozen beef, across from City Hardware is a store called MKK's Industries, a small store with white sign. They sell frozen beef, some from Australia some from Brazil, depending on their stock. Tenderloins, Rib Steak, and they also sell other stuff like bacon, chicken filets, sauseges. The beef is in 1+ kilo sizes. It is ok for barbecue, imho.
I know what you mean about a meat market, I miss mine back in Carlsbad Ca.

Note: I also buy a good big steak at Casablanca and take part of it home and barbq it, the best for me.

depending what you wanna spend, local beef is pretty much waste but several places offer imported beef, you can pre-order different cuts, don't know about the prices though (I think I have seen a order-list at the CB - deli)

    When in Rome....................

Friend of mine arrived home a couple of months ago. He noticed a pretty good sized fire in his front yard. Neighbors and relatives were barbecuing and it looked pretty good. He got out of his car, walked over and asked what was going on. Seems another neighbor's dog got run over. Instead of burying it and forgetting it, he sold it to the relatives. They took it home, dressed out and cooked it. He didn't say how it tasted.

My wife's parents live 80km from Dgte in the boonies. When their family dog was run over, the "mountain people" living somewhere up behind them took it and ate it.

When Chow King was under construction I walked by one morning and the workers had a lechoned dead dog hanging upside down right in the middle of the store. One of them was burning the hair off of it with a blow torch

Imagine that picture with the dog also made me chuckle... didn't we have a thread a while back about some negative aftereffects from the same place ??? maybe it was the kitchenstaff training...

Nevertheless, a blow torch is not that uncommon in kitchens, mainly used for caramelizing powder sugar on top of desserts, heating flan forms etc.
