⌛ Best return ticket needed strategy?

Before they'll let me on the plane in the US to come to PI, I'm going to need to show a ticket that's taking me out of PI. (I'm coming one-way)

Is the Air Asia - Clark to Kota Kinabalu for $65 about as cheap a throw away ticket I'm going to find?

Or can you get a refund if you buy a regular ticket correctly?

 

Only full fare refundable tickets are refundable, and they are not cheap.
In most cases you can buy them from the airline itself (not a travelagency) with a creditcard and the refund will go back to the account of your creditcard after 1,5 month.
There is an administrative fee of around 500 Pesos (some airlines ask more)
You will have to ask for the refund in the office from the airline(Manila or Cebu)
Most cheap airlines have promotiontickets as low as 600 pesos "out of the dountry" that you can use as a trow away ticket.
Look regularly to Air Asia(Malaysia),Tiger Airways(Singapore) or Cebu Pacific for their cheapest international ticket.

 

look for another date, you get the same ticket cheaper, just bought for 1.119 peso.
Doant think about a throw-away ticket. KK is a great trip for a short escape.

 

Coming from the US, changing the date of return will not change much to the price.
Even if you take a round trip to Kota Kinabalu, you still need a ticket out of the country on your way back to the Philippines.
Right now with a high oil price, and rising, plane tickets with a return date 6 months or more away are very expensive.
Some airlines are selling o/w tickets at a reasonable price, other airlines charge more for a one way than for a round trip.

 

I do not understand

Why you need a round trip ticket? June 2010 I got a pair of "One way tickets" (on the net) from Anchorage Alaska to Manila, via, Honolulu. We had no problems what-so-ever. Was ask in Manila how long we were going to stay. I said as long as the Filipinos would have me. We were given 1 year visa stamps and it was that easy. It really felt good to be flying out of the US on a one way ticket.

 

It is simply the law that you need a ticket showing that you leave the PI again (not round trip) if on tourist status.

It is duty of the airline to ensure that and supposed to be controlled at the check in. Check in can be denied if you can't show anything which verifies that you leave the country again.

Some airlines/departure-airports may take that law more serious than others. so you basically were lucky. You don't wanna mess up a life-time-step because of a missing 20$ ticket.

 

E Ticket

You can alway book an e-ticket / online. Then cancel the return ticket and get a refund but you still have the paperwork

 

Same here I just got one ticket from West Virginia to Manila, PI No one said nothing to me and I have been here now for a year. I guess we was lucky.:p And I came by myself single with no Filpina!!!

 

Bad advice. Read the small print!!
