Hi all Im, I've been planning our family vacation this coming October 08, and definitely its Dumaguete.

Im planning to drive my car from bacolod to duma, I heard that there are a lot of road works going on, can anybody give me feed back if I should take the Mabinay road or San Carlos via Don salvador benedicto. Im using a sedan that's why Im concern if I drive a 4x4 it doesnt matter.

    Thanks..

All I can say from my experience is that indeed via Mabinay is still not a good option, purely because of the many construction works at the roads.
When that is finished it will be advisable to take that way.
But before October ? No way that that will be finished.
We take that road via Mabinay once a month using the Ceres Liner Bus.
You're shuttled during 25 % of the time.
But I don't know if via San Carlos there are no construction works on the roads.
I went that road (with a Van) more than 2 years ago.
Then it was no problem and I enjoyed the scenery.

Thanks jellyfish, Im also quite sure that there is a construction on that area as some of my friend told me as they take that road as well going to Ursumco.

I experience via San Carlos but that was also 2years ago I also loved this route views are teriffic.. I recently heard that there was a land slide on that un paved portion on the mountain going down san carlos.. Im not sure if that road in now passable to cars.

Hi baltoed, I used to travel a lot from other places like cebu, bohol panay by car.. Im just using the Wow philippines guide map.. very helpful... I have plenty maps on my vehicle. You can buy them on airports magazine shops or any national book store outlet.

Regarding this thread why I asked is because Im not aware of road conditions ahead. There are actually 4 options from bacolod to dumaguete but Im considering the mabinay and san carlos but I need feed back of any road construction since im driving a car and not an off roader.

I was hoping for better..lol..ok I dont have the WOW but I do have a EZ Visayas map purchased in the airport by the way..and a Western Visayas map but I dont remember where I picked that up. The EZ Map denotes the 2 shoreline routes and the one thru Mabinay as more developed over the route thru to San Carlos. And yes no telling what *ANY* of their conditions are after FRANK has left his mark. Good luck on any choice..Ive heard say the San Carlos route can be a bit scary!..But then the one through Mabinay is longer thru moutainous terraine ( 65.4k vs 60k) if the distances on the maps are to be believed. Having looked at US Corp of Engineers maps of the Island the roads seemed listed as - - - meaning unpaved..and a Friend who drove the San carlos way last year just said *scary*..
