I was surprised also as here in Australia it is all donated freely. Both my Brother In-laws there sell their blood from time to time, it is the first time I have ever heard of it, I would like to find out more myself as my blood has very high Red cell count and my Doctor has suggested I donate at least once a month to help thin my blood as it is prone to clotting... Even if I have to give it away I have to start doing it soon to keep my red cell count down.

Brian, my brother was in the hospital a year ago with many blood clots in his lungs. The doctors put him on blood thinners and ordered him to restrict his consumption of leafy green vegetables as the leafy green vegetables are what builds up your clotting factor. I'm safe because to me, chicken is a leafy green vegetable, kidding. I have to force cuts to bleed to make them close and heal or soak them in gasoline to chemically cauterize them so they heal from the inside out.

Considering that the hospitals charge from 4000 to 8000 for a bag of blood I am happy to hear that the donor got 1000

I spoke to asawa about selling, her Brother told her Foreigner and Filipina are not allowed to sell their blood, as she was also looking at doing a few bags a month herself, I will look into it further when I am back as I:
    01) Need to have around a litre a month bled off for whatever this thing is I have that causes me to produce too many Red cells &
    02) I would like to become a Donor to help others at the same time (and the money doesn't sound bad either hehe)

I certainly meet their criteria regards the high red cell count, but then take into account the amount of painkillers I take, I am not sure what the follow on effect of that would be? I do not partake in illegal drug activity, hell I do not even drink alcohol! So I am sure my blood will be as good if not better than the average donor, and 3k a month selling blood, one could almost live on that there

Whilst I can not find it at this time Brian, there is a RA in force forbidding the sale of human Blood (just so you are aware). [JFYI] I have put a link on about Donating Blood. in the PI. Hope you find the link Useful.

OK, I have Found the RA Act number and it's Title.

    REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1517

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1517 - AN ACT REGULATING THE COLLECTION, PROCESSING AND SALE OF HUMAN BLOOD, AND THE ESTABLISHMENT AND OPERATION OF BLOOD BANKS AND BLOOD PROCESSING LABORATORIES

(REPEALED BY REPUBLIC ACT NO. 7719)

Section 1. In order to promote public health, it is declared a national policy to prevent trafficking in human blood and its products and derivatives.

So if they can't sell it they won't buy it obviously there will always be Unscrupulous Labs so please be careful my friend.
