Being able to withdraw more per insertion also saves on your local bank's charge for using your card at an ATM not in control of your local bank. There is an additional fee debited to your account for conversion of different currencies which is 1% of the withdrawal in the currency of your home country. The 1% doesn't apply to accounts of Philippine banks. shaky
I just two days ago used the BPI ATM in Makati with a card from a Texas-based bank having the chip. It gave me P20,000. I have heard that the BPI branch at Silliman Ave and National Highway still gives P20,000 on foreign cards. I can understand that limiting foreign cards to P10,000 is a great profit center since each withdrawal costs P200 (thus doubling the fee for foreigners who want to take out more than P10,000.) The P200 is very expensive even by "Big City" US standards... more than US$4. If your bank limit allows it, you can still get the P20,000 from the other ATMs my just immediately making a second withdrawal (and paying the fee again.)
