Does anyone know a place to buy Brazil nuts in Dumaguete City?
I'd prefer a place that sold them in bulk and we could just scoop them into a bag and pay by the kilo.
Is this too much to expect?

I'd prefer shelled, but beggars can't be choosers.

The reason I want some is because they have one of the highest concentrations of selenium of any food. Even one a day gives you all the selenium you need and it is a good idea to take selenium with Vit E, since they are synergists. Vit E is many times more effective in the presence of selenium. Yes we can buy selenium tablets here, but they are kind of expensive and I was thinking 1-2 Brazil nuts a day would be much less than one tablet and I already take so many vitamins as it is. Brown rice has a good dose of selenium too, nowhere close to Brazils though, and that is all we eat as for rice at home. My GF never ate brown before, but I converted her. hehehe. Yes it costs double of white, but has over double the nutrients and fiber, and yes she also likes it.

MrClean, you are correct, I'm also doing the same for my family. brown rice is so much better than white rice. But my wife just bought a bag of white rice. I'm still trying.

A friend of mine who lives in CDO and USA about 50/50, studies these things, so I'm taking his word for it on this, but anyway he told me the PI has some of if not the highest rates of Diabetes and Hypertension of any countries in the world. If anyone has Type II or is borderline, then white rice is one of the worst foods they can eat. Even simply switching to brown rice, which has a lower glycemic index can reduce risk of Type II by about 20%.
Of course for anyone with Type II, cutting out all grains, potatoes and refined sugars can cure it. It is a body weight related thing too, more body mass index rather than pure weight, and nothing can fatten people better than grains, same as it does with livestock.
Potatoes are a tough call. They have a high glycemic index, but when eaten with the skins left on, they are very nutrient dense.

Sort of got off the original topic of nuts here, but my reasoning for wanting them was more diet health related rather than pleasure related.

MrClean, what do you know about Almonds as a cancer preventative?

And what was the name of that Almond derivative that was hailed many years back as a cure for cancer?

I know nothing at all about almonds being a preventative for cancer. It is a fine source of Vitamin E though, which is an antioxidant, which are reputed to help your body resist cancer.

Cleopatra used to eat lots of almonds or so it has been said. She considered them an aphrodisiac.
