Plan on moving to Dumaguete in the fall. I think I could get a better price for a computer in the States rather than in Dumaguete but would i have any problems with power and service? opinion would be greatly appreciated

    good day!

Probably u might get a better price in the states but isn't the transportation of your computer stuff cost u much? not to mention the risk of the damages it might be having during the transport. Well, that was my personal opinion. But in case you might consider the option of buying here, i recommend you go check the AACtech computer shop in Ma. Cristina Street (i believe). The proprietor is a good friend of mine named Angeline. Regarding the power and service in Dumguete, its OK! :D

    Take care!

hmmmm... the power in DGTE is ok????? I don't think the brownouts good for computers... not to talk about an average of 180 Volts...
If you are in Dumaguete and can get a propper connection internet is ok., If you have to relay on IT-Outlook and need to earn money online.... just forget about it.

    cheers

    IT Outlook

    Rhoody is absolutely right...

    IT Outlook is a joke...

Excuse after excuse and no results is their modus operandi...

Again if you can get any other connection you should be fine.

Acelogics is the best computershop in town to get your computer gear, we get everything in there. Do not waste your time with Octagon, it looks like a bigger shop, but staff knows nothing and most the stock is outdated and overpriced.

So if you depend on Internet and computers to make a living here you will have to find a place with a good Internet provider.

    buying computers

    Dane,

How is Acelogics for buying computers? Are their prices competitive? I know you rate them highly for compute repairs. Don't need anything for a business, just e-mails, news, Dumaguete Forum info and some office functions like Word.

We bought 2 systems there and I was happy with everything, price, pre-sale advice and after-sale support.

We had other stuff in for repair than computers like Microwave and UPS, they also did a great job on that.

    New computer

If you do buy one in the states, I would suggest a good laptop, for easier transport. Once you get in Dumaguete you can buy a monitor, mouse and keyboard, and use the laptop as a desktop, or if you like just stick with the laptop altogether. We also use a battery backup with surge protector for the brownouts here in Panama.

I think a good UPS is essential in the Philippines.

If you have a stopover in Hong Kong, buy a decent laptop there, half the price than U.S.A. :D
