"Why not take the ferry to Dgte?"

2 ferries per day with a stop in tagbilaran.... and more :greedy:

the ceres and Vhires leave 2 times an hour and connect up well with the pumpboat and fastcraft ... cheaper and faster - its what most of the locals going from CC to Dum do

    just anothr opinion

    Dmgte to Cebu S/term:
for convenience, no thinking, air con, take the bus and bus ferry,no changing exept you have to gt off the bus when it goes on the barge and they charge you three times, cebu bus fare, barge fare, and negros bus fare. It takes at least 5 + hours. very long and lots of waiting.

The fastest way, if that is an issue, is to easy ride to sibulan, pumpboat to liloan, catch a bus to cebu. (Or reverse) Depending on how fast you get to sibulan, youll save an hour or two. V hire can save you more time than Ceres, but they often are in poor repair and some drive outright dagerously, get the front seat other wise ,claustraphobia will get you. I have seen a rear wheel fly off one of these at 60 kph. Wheel bearing failed, driver just kept booking along apparently oblivious to the squealing. I would reccomend leaving Cebu no later than 1-2 to avoid missing the last pump boat at liloan or traveling at night.

Ceres do occasionally have accidents, but your at less risk because of their size, and generally are in better repair than the v hires. The aircon Ceres have senior drivers who tend to be better smoother drivers, meaning also slower.

If you want to lose no daytime hours there is an overnite barge dmgte to Cebu and visa versa, sorry don't have current prices or details. Sleep as you travel at night arive early AM. Maybe someone can fill in the blanks.

    vhire/ceres

most of the v hire vans are in pretty good repair but some of the drivers are reckless and fast and the back seats have 4 people crammed into seats meant for 3 - I pay 200 peso (double price) to buy the passengers seat without them sitting a 2nd person on a pad behind the shift lever - usually a total of 14 crammed into a 10 passenger van.....the pumpboats are a better ride than the fastcraft that connect to the ceres but the bus seats are roomier than the vhire ones... most of the bus drivers are fast and crazy also
the entire trip is less than 200 peso one way - the oceanjet is 10 times that price and a little over 4 hours - actually about the same as the bus and a little longer than the v-hire

If I arrive in Manila too late to use the flight to Dumaguete I take a flight to Cebu and meet my girlfriend there instead. Next day we normally go to Dumag.
I total agree with cebudriver. It is fast and cheap, but it is not good for people taller than 150cm :-)
I am 193cm and sitting in the back corner on a little extra seat. It was not funny at all.
Next time I proberly take the boat (if I can get up in the morning)

    update

Went to Cebu Yesterday 10/31/07. Going there took fastcraft from Sibulan to liloan which if not mentioned, docks at a different pier than pump boat. 15 minute ride, 47 P.

Aircon Ceres waiting at pier, Bus left almost imediately, 149 P I think. Made it from Sibulan to Cebu South Terminal in just over three hours. Best time for me so far, (but I don't ride the V-hires)unlike pumpboat landing, where you have to hire a motorcycle to the Ceres at end of the road 20P. V-hire is available at pumpboat dock however.

Coming back last trip same day, this was the barge bus combined trip.
    South terminal Cebu,
Batu Maayo shipping terminal 168 P
Tampi (Amlan) Maayo shipping terminal 60 P ferry fee
Ceres terminal Dumaguete(or any where you want along way) 22 P

This trip took 4.5 hours again on the faster side of average, we were lucky with connections to the ferry, traffic, etc. I have taken aslong as 5+ hours.

As an aside for general info for those unfamiliar with Philippine ettiqute, THERE IS NONE when it comes to geting on a bus. be fully prepared for hand to hand combat to ensure a seat. This was accentuated as it was the last trip on day before a holiday to honor the dead, (no honor for the living) I was ready to calmly but firmly get on the bus as usuall, but as many know, everone rushes the bus door before it opens to let out the disembarking passengers. In this case, the conductor yells and screams to get back, no one responds. Door opens people don't wait for one person to get off and try to push by immediately. I am usually slow to get upset, and this is standard procedure here, but in this case there was a poor frail lola trying to get off, I spread my 6'plus wing span and made a space for her. At my height, my elbows are about even with the average male filipino's nose. it was easy to make a small path. Except this one particularly rude guy comes headlong down the path and smacks into the old lady. It was not pretty.
My girl and I did get get our seats, and everyone went back to being polite.

Ceres Bus liner Cebu -Dumaguete vice versa

    Hi there!

My family once took the bus from Cebu to Dumaguete-Zamboanguita route, it was not bad at all, with that theres alot of beautiful sceneries along the way and the best was the clouds when reach to the point before going in into the barge, it was so beautiful. I have it all in the video but the personal experience was amazing.

The second time we took the bus is from Dumaguete-Cebu and it was nightmare, everyone is pushing to get in into the bus. I hope in the near future the management well put up a system whereby people can purchase the tickets in advance just like here in Malaysia, its systematic and no chaos.

With that experience, my husband refuse to take the bus anymore, he dont mind paying extra with the ferry as long as he is confortable and not being push.

Anyhow, i still recommend to my sister inlaw to take the bus from cebu its fun. I just wonder whether the 12:50pm schedule is still on?

    Thanks

V-hires are dangerous, bad drivers in unsafe vehicles driving way too fast.

There was a sytem before in place in dumaguete Ceres terminal where people can buy tickets in advance with sit numbers, people can even choose where they like to sit if they come early enough , but can't see this now, don't know why they get rid of it .That was good and minimized stress.

    Hi
How is the "seat demand" in early January? I am not sure yet what route I am going to take. I will either take a bus to San Carlos and go to Cebu via Toledo or I will take the route via Bato as described in the transportation section of dumagueteinfo. Is the route to San Carlos ok? I would know my way then from Toledo to Cebu City.

I have never done this before. I do not even know where the Ceres terminal in Dumaguete is. It is in Dumaguete, right? I.e., I can tell a tricycle driver to take me to the terminal, and then I will find the buses with their designated destinations.

If you have some family or friends in Cebu you could ask/hire one of them to get on the bus for you and hold your seat until you get there.
